Order of events

Jaiy, on March 5, 2020 at 7:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
I'm just wondering on some ideas of the order of events at reception. Big question is, do you serve dinner before doing the first dances(i.e. first dance as husband and wife, father daughter dance, mother son dance) also we want to play the shoe game at our wedding.

There’s no right or wrong! We did dances after dinner as a way to open up the dance floor. It worked best for us since dancing was in a separate room but I’ve seen dances before dinner as well! Whatever works best for you.

We did dances before dinner just because all attention was on us already from the grand entrance

We're the same as Melle. We're going to do our first dance right after the grand entrance

We did our first dance after our entrance but there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. Do whatever works for you.

Ok this seems plausible. So do you do your entrance song and then switch to first dance song or do you get introduced using your first dance song? I'm all over the place with planning. Sorry guys

I plan to have appetizers during the cocktail hour while we take pictures, because I feared of people being hungry either way. I went to two weddings recently and neither had appetizers while guests waited in them to get back. I knew I didnt want that. I dont want angry guests

We did entrances, then went right into the dances. We then transferred over to dinner. Right after dinner we did toasts and then the party commenced.

I wanted to do the first dances before the dinner, but since the buffet is on the dance floor, it will have to wait. We are also having food during the cocktail hour but this works best for our venue.

I would serve dinner first, you'll likely be starving and ready to eat after the ceremony. The shoe game would be fun to do during I think. If you and your FH get your food first and eat it by the time your guests have their food weather plated or buffet style. Once every one is starting to eat they could watch you play the shoe game and it would not take time away from the open dancing.

It honestly depends on what you want to do. My husband and I did our bridal party introductions, first dances and then we opened the buffet. After everyone ate, we did our toasts, cut the cake and then opened the dance floor.

For us I think this is what we will do:

    Introductions
    First Dance
    Welcome/Toasts
    Dinner
Cake Cutting (we figure best to do while everyone is still sitting)
Parent Dance or Bridal party dance
Open dance floor with I want to Dance With Somebody

I think this is exactly what we're going to do as well. First dance first, then dinner, and then parent dances.
