Ordained Online Chester County, PA

Katie, on August 2, 2017 at 5:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I am looking to get married in Chester County, PA and want to have my brother officiate. I noticed that many people said that you have to have a congregation and not just ordained online but that was from 2011. Anyone have updated information?

Call the county clerk. They will be your best resource on what is legal.

    1) the advice you will mostly get here will be to hire a professional officiant. If you can't even figure out *how* to get married by your brother in an internet generation, you need a professional to make sure it's legally done.

    2) let your brother relax and enjoy the day rather than put this stress on him- he's not a professional.

Hire a professional officiant. In PA your marriage would not be legal. Please read this

In PA you can marry yourself. That way you can make it legal for sure. Your brother can guide or act as the officiant. But you are mainly doing a self uniting ceremony.

In my niece is marrying us. She is ordained online. Officiant must then register with the clerk of courts after being ordained. I believe there are only 2 counties in which online ordained is not legal. I know Bucks county is 1 of them.

Yeah call the county you are going to file the license in. PA used to be strict about this, but to my knowledge, most counties now recognize online ordained.

PA is also the only state you can get a self unity marriage license. If you're still nervous, you can get one of those when you file for your license.

It also doesn't matter which county you obtain the license in, but it does matter which one you file it in.

Chester County here too! I have a hired officiant, though.

    Where is your wedding?

Last I read PA doesn't recognize online ordinations (I live in PA and VERY briefly considered having a friend do it). The officiant needs to be apart of a regular church and have a congregation. Or be a judge or mayor. Like pp said, I would call to be sure, but it's pretty clearly stated in multiple online sources.

Most counties in PA have a self uniting ceremony option stemming from the Quakers. It is a different marriage license though.
