Optimal temperature/time of year for outdoor wedding?

YourBiggestFan, on March 15, 2017 at 3:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

What's everyone's opinions on the best time of year (or temperature range) to hold an outdoor wedding?

I'm attending one this weekend and the forecast is 65 and sunny, which is cold to me but probably fine for most people for a short ceremony. I've seen a lot of stories about outdoor weddings that are too hot/too cold, so I'm just curious on everyone's thoughts on this!

Personally, I'm most comfortable when it's 75 and sunny. I'd deal with 65 and sunny - but hopefully they warned their guests ahead of time that the ceremony is outside so they can dress appropriately.

I feel this is dependent on location and the person. 65-73 would be doable for me depending on if there is a cool breeze. If a breeze is present then it might be idea to put guests in semi-direct sun light. However, anything 74 and above would require shade. In my opinion, once you start to go over 80-85* it's time to take the wedding indoors. Especially if it's a humid day. Again, this is my own personal experience in my area and what I find tolerable as far as temperature. Everyone is different.

I am personally happy being outside even if it's 90 and humid, but I'm a rare bird. Common wisdom in my region is that 65-85 is a good range. At 65, you'd need heaters of course. And at 85, you'll need lots of shade, possibly a tent/cooling off indoor area/etc. Anything outside 65-85 is when my backup plan will kick in personally.

July, August, and Septembers are the biggest wedding months where I live (and I've never been to an indoor wedding here) because May and June are chilly/foggy. But there's a lot of regional variation; if you go an hour inland, it would be hot as balls in the summer and May/June/October are peak months. Just think of what the most comfortable months are to be outside in your area. Choose that!

Also, as far as I know 74 degrees is "room temperature." So if someone thinks that's too hot, I don't think moving inside would necessarily help that person.

I think anywhere from 60-80 is comfortable to me as long as I know in advance that the wedding is outdoors. Nothing is worse than showing up thinking you will be inside and being super inappropriately dressed for the outside weather.

I wouldn't bat an eye at anything 65-75 degrees. I'd deal with anything from 75-80 and 60-65. Anything outside that range needs to be moved indoors.

I'm from Minnesota, so we see a wide range of temps and humidity levels throughout the year. I think 65-75 degrees is perfect. If it's 80 and sunny I would be dying of heat, but 80 and cloudy would be nice. 60 with breeze would be cold, but super sunny and not windy would be nice.

There's a lot of factors. 70 with some shade would be ideal for me. Smiley smile

ETA: @Heather same here - people are wearing t shirts as soon as the snow melts!

After all the arguments over summer outdoor weddings, this discussion is really putting my mind at ease for my own summer outdoor wedding lol.

75-85 and sunny, evening reception so it cools down a bit for dancing!

For me, 70-80 would be the ideal range. I get cold very easily and my husband will sweat through his shirt if it's above 80.

Statistically speaking, my outdoor ceremony should be about 75 and sunny, late afternoon with direct sun but coastal breezes and only 20-30 min long. Hydration stations will be provided. If it's unseasonably intolerable, we'll move it indoors

I got married in NJ in October, and we lucked out for our outdoor ceremony. It was 65-70 and sunny. Had it been below 60, I would have gone to plan B and moved inside rather than have everyone shiver for a half hour.
