Is it tacky if I don't do an open bar?

Nope it’s your wedding. Do you. Maybe try consumption that way you only pay for what they actually drink versus paying for everyone to drink or do beer and wine only if your trying to keep costs down.

I wouldn’t put myself over budget to support someone’s drinking habit. People are going to talk regardless of what you do, do what’s best for you, people fail to realize it’s not about them. We’re doing a cash bar

Another option is to consider beer and wine o or for cocktail hour then open bar with liquor for a limited about of hours the remainder of the reception. Ask about top shelf and bottom shelf options as well if bottom shelf liquor can reduce the cost. Also if you can have a signature drink maybe instead of open bar

I don't see it as tacky. But then again, I'll probably be called tacky bc I'm having a cash bar. It's not a dry wedding but if guests want to drink, they'll have to pay for it. It's not in my budget to afford all that. The coordinator for my wedding venue even stated when he was showing us the different packages and prices, that lots of people do a cash bar these days. Maybe it's a local area thing? Or maybe the people I know? I've been to a few weddings where the reception are in a building that's attached to a bar (like a legion) and guests will go over to buy their own drinks

We are doing a cash bar to fit in our budget and also hopefully limit the amount of stupidity at our wedding. I want it to be a fun night and there are some heavy drinkers on both sides of our families so I am hoping by having a cash bar they won’t drink as much as if it were an open bar.

I'm having a hard time with this as well like I would love to pay for an open bar but we know alot of drinkers! So then we thought of doing a limit but if people know some might take advantage and get more drinks than others and if they didnt know part way through the night they are told to pay so I dont really know how well that will work but theres no way we can have a dry wedding!

We aren’t having an open bar, we are just serving beer and wine. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think it's talky. I would just let your guests know. We are offering some apple ale and a spiked fall punch, but there is a cash bar for any other choices.

I would suggest just offering/coveting beer & wine.

Look into hosting beer and wine, at the least.
