“Open bar”

Molly , on May 26, 2019 at 11:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hello brides! I need some input. I am having free alcohol at my wedding but not necessarily having an open bar. We are just having a few kinds of beer, wine, and 2 signature drinks. How can I put this on my invites without making guests think that’s it’s a completely open bar? Thank you!!

IMO, you don't need to put anything on the invite. As a guest, I take "open bar" to mean that it's being paid for by the hosts but not necessarily to mean that a full bar selection is available. Our wedding is beer and wine only because our venue is a winery and they can't serve liquor.

If you have a website you can also put the information there! I did that and included information about the food we'll be serving so that it sounds exciting 😉 At least I'd think it's exciting because I'm personally very food motivated 😂 Happy planning!

This is great! No need to mention it. Beer & wine are fine. Two signature drinks are a bonus. 🍷 🍺 🍸

That is an open bar. “Open bar” means you’re providing the beverages at no cost to your guests, not that you’re providing every type of beer/wine/liquor. It’s only advised to tell your guests about the bar in advance if they need to bring cash.

I'm doing beer/wine/specialty drink - my venue will only have those items out, so people will know nothing else is available.

As far as I know you do not need to place this information on the invitation.

You dont need to tell your guests what types of alcohol will be present on the invites. Just make a little "menu" sign to put on the bar for guests to read as they are in line and they can choose what they want then.

That to me sounds like an open bar. But regardless, it shouldn't be mentioned on invitations.

I am doing the same thing you are. Did not list on my invitations. I am just going to get a small chalk board, write what drinks are available and that their only available until they run out.

This is what we want to do also! not necessarily an open free for all but we're hosting it to a certain amount and then its a cash bar.
