Open bar signs ? Wording?

Maya, on June 12, 2018 at 4:15 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 22

Hey ladies, I'm creating all the signs ill need for the ceremony and reception. I was wondering if you are supposed to include some type of a drink menu and what other signs your including for your bar?

Thanks in advance!

You don't have to include a drink menu, it's just kind of extra decoration. I saw a cute sign that said "Our wedding will have an open bar. It will also be heavily photographed. Any drunken shenanigans will be mocked for years to come. Proceed with caution!" That's a cute decoration to add in if you're looking to fill space.

No sign is necessary. Signs are getting out of hand in my opinion.

If you are hosting beer, wine, and maybe a signature drink, and the bar set up at your venue includes other options in stock it can be tricky to communicate that to your guests. In that case a sign that says something to the effect of "the bride and groom are hosting X and Y beer and A and B wine as well signature drink" can be very helpful.

🙌🏽 YES. Signs are getting so ridiculous! I started out with a few myself and sold them because I don’t want cheesy poems or to have to find a place for all these signs!
Op- I think with an open bar, you won’t need a sign. It will save you some $$ too!

    Completely agree.

    No sign necessary for this.

This! I will have one sign because our guests are parking at a park across the street. It'll just let them know that it's parking for our wedding. Other than that, I feel signs are getting out of control.

You don't have to, but I always prefer it at weddings. Even with an open bar, venues only supply certain types of beer and wine. We are doing open beer & wine & signature cocktail, then liquor for purchase. I plan on buying a sign with the list of 4 beers and 4 wines available, the name of the cocktail and what is in it, then a small line at the bottom that says "additional liquor is available for purchase".

If it's open bar, unless you're recommending a special drink along with it, you won't need a sign. My first wedding was open bar and people just went to the bar to order as they wished. Granted, it was 2014 so the sign craze hadn't started yet.

We had a cute sign on the bar that said "Love is Intoxicating, open bar- enjoy!" I got it on Etsy for like $5 (printed myself) and grabbed a cheap frame from Home Goods! People loved it.

You don't really *need* a drink menu if it's an open bar (everything is on the menu) but they have some cute options on Pinterest. Also check that your venue/bartender doesn't have something for that already. I know mine has a permanent chalkboard above the bar that they write on.

I think it all depends on you and what you want. If you have a bar, maybe listing out the liquors, beers, wines, ect available would be helpful for your guests. But this is of course your own personal preference!

With our open bar we got to choose from 5 beers, the wines and liquor we preferred so we're going to have the beer and wine listed but that's it and if we do a signature cocktail then will list that too

We didn't do an overall drink menu, but we did have a menu for our signature drinks.

This. When did weddings become zoos that need directions/signs/maps every 4 feet?

I assure you, people will figure out where the bar is (probably within 5 minutes of entering the reception space) and will discover on their own that's it an open bar.

Ok so we aren't so much doing many signs but we saw this and found it HILARIOUS because our friends (and us) are drunk fools sometimes.

We also plan on hanging this up above our little bar at home afterwards (found it on amazon and it's actually made out of wood it's great quality)

Unless you're having a very limited bar with only a couple signature drinks whose names don't tell you what's in them, you don't need any signs for your bar. People can just see with their eyes what bottles are behind the bar, or ask the bartender "what kind of wine do you have?" or whatever.

I am making 1 small/medium sized sign to place on the bar. It will list what drinks are available since we are only serving 3 liquors and 3 beers. It makes it clear to guests and bar tenders what is being served.

I'm considering a sign that says something like "Please enjoy an open bar! May we suggest our signature cocktails: (then list each of our signature drinks)" Only because most of the weddings we've been to lately have only served wine and beer with liquor for cash. Many of our younger guests have attended some or all of them, and I don't want people assuming it's just wine and beer, or being hesitant to ask (personally I feel awkward asking if it's included, especially in earshot of anyone who might be offended, like I expected more to be offered...and I don't want to just order liquor then feel inclined to pay if it's extra). It would be a shame for anyone not to get the drink they wanted after we've payed for the premium open bar.

If you have full open bar, you don't need a sign. I would only have one if you are having a signature cocktail. The bartender knows how to display things so people can see what is available otherwise
