Open Bar Numbers

Ashley, on May 9, 2019 at 5:52 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

We are having an open bar for our wedding with about 145 guests who will be drinking. We must purchase our own alcohol and my cousin is a certified bartender who will be serving the drinks, we aren't using a company.

We will have Rum, Whisky, Vodka (all half gallons), Budlight (full keg), Blue moon (half keg), with a red and white wine.

For brides with this amount of guests, how much alcohol did you purchase? I don't want to run out but I also don't want to have an excessive amount to haul around.

*I've tried all the online calculators, I just want some advice from those who have/are doing the same.

We just finished buying all the alcohol for our 165 guest wedding next weekend. We are using a bar tending company that gave us our shopping list based on our drink selection and guest count, so we're pretty comfortable with the numbers. They are providing all the ice and garnishes thankfully! We bought:

    30 bottles red wine

    30 bottles white wine

    30 bottles rose

    7 24 packs of Stella

    7 24 packs of 805

And we're doing 3 signature drinks, an old fashioned, a mojito, and a margarita, and got:

    9 liters whiskey

    9 liters tequila

    5 liters rum

    3 bottles triple sec

    10 liters club soda

    4 bottles simple syrup

    5 liters lime juice

    2 bottles angostura bitters

And then we got 2 costco sized cases each of coke, diet coke, sprite and la croix.

Is one bartender enough for 145 guests?

This is a good thing for you to consider. We had 163. Our venue came with bartenders, but I think they had 4 on staff at 2 different bars. You will probably have a really long line especially at the start of cocktail hour with just one bartender.

We have two bartenders. I was asking about how much alcohol to get. Also, the alcohol is free so I'm not worried about people having to wait in a line. We've been to weddings with the same situation but only one bartender and no one had an issue with it.
