Oops! We changed our date...

S.M., on November 20, 2012 at 8:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Since we changed our date after sending Save the Dates, we need to send out new ones. I still have quite a few of our original ones, as we were planning to invite almost double the amount of people we ended up sending the initial round of STDs to (as in, I ordered 100 but we used less than 50). I'm thinking about sending the same ones out again, but with a sticker on them, similar to this picture.

What do you think? Tacky, good idea, or should I suck it up and order new ones and get them in the mail ASAP?

Honestly it could be confusing for guests because there are two dates on it. If you can afford to order new ones, I would suggest doing so.

And also, you don't need to rush on getting those in the mail, you can wait a few months if you need to.

Would changing it like this help? I can take a red marker and cross out the original date.

Part of the reason we are changing our date is because we don't have enough saved to do things the way we want, and we don't want to start out our married life with wedding debt.

We could wait, but I don't think we should. It's a Notre Dame home game weekend, and some hotels are already filling up (two that I called about room blocks are already full), and others are hiking their rates. I've found two so far that are reasonably priced (only $20-30 more than our non-game weekend group rate). Our venue is maybe 30-40 minutes from the stadium (depending on which way you go). Hotels within a 90 minute drive of the campus book fast, especially for the ND vs USC game (which is the weekend of our wedding).

This is kind of a tricky situation. I would say wait until you're 110% sure that you can afford it on this new date and that the date won't change again. On the other hand, I say send them out yesterday because of it being a game day weekend! Either way, you want to be absolutely certain of this new date. If it wasn't for the game day weekend I would suggest waiting because you are still 11 months out from the date.

Also, I would question the game day weekend thing... here in the South that wouldn't go over very well Smiley winking the groom and I might not even make it to the wedding! hehe

The problem I see is that some people may reserve a hotel that is non refundable. I would send a card that says the date has been changed, more info to come later. Can you move your date to a non game weekend so it wont be such a hassle?

Game day is Saturday, and we are getting married on Sunday. Smiley smile But, I should check to see who is playing that day as well...

If someone decides that watching a football game on TV is more important than attending our wedding and reception... well, I guess that is just one less person we need to pay for.

True, but you have to take in to account the costs of hotel rooms in the area. If you have a lot of guests coming from OOT and the rates are way higher, they may not be able to afford it. It also depends on what the traffic is like in the area. Regardless, you'll have a lot of people streaming ESPN on their cell phones Smiley winking

Our date has special significance for us, which is why we want to get married on 10/20. I wanted to get married then in the first place, but FH wanted to get married sooner, so we went for April... And then he had some legal issues to take care of, some health problems that meant he couldn't work as much over the summer, and an emergency vet bill. And I bought a house (closer to work), so all my extra money went to getting things set up there.

Each hotel that I have spoken to has stated that the rooms are refundable as long as they are cancelled 30 days in advance (so by 9/18, since I set the room blocks for check in on 10/18 and check out on 10/21).
