Only offering 1 signature cocktail?

Sarah, on June 24, 2022 at 6:03 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18
So me and my fiancé were talking and thinking about just doing 1 signature cocktail to cut costs because we’ve already spent close to 25,000 so far 😳😳😳 Anyways our 1 signature cocktail will be a coconut cream one.. There is rum in it, orange juice, pineapple juice and coconut cream on top (it’s amazing) also we will have 2 different options of beer and 2 different options of wine (1 red and 1 white) we really do want that signature cocktail but would offering just one look silly ?

One is more than enough. 25k , guest will be more than happy with one. Keep in mind they might also order their own cocktails. And for me, I don’t personally like coconut. I think you all will be fine.

One is fine, but I personally would go for something a little more mainstream. Coconut is a polarizing flavor. Can people order from the bar at their own expense if they don't like the offerings?

One is fine but I'd recommend a more mainstream cocktail, such as something gin-based or whiskey-based

Thats totally fine, but your cocktail may not be everyone's first choice. What about a sangria? Or mojito. The coconut cream etc sounds like a lot.

We are getting our drinks from a brewery by our venue .. they are also going to be bartending at the wedding … Here are 8 of the signature drinks we can pick from and he also said he was opened to suggestions if I had something else in mind like a rum and coke or cranberry juice and vodka etc! Which one ?

Unless your guests are rum drinkers, they may underestimate how to mix rum with other liquors. Or if you will keep rum, perhaps a dark and stormy (dark rum, ginger beer, lime) may be a more palatable pre-dinner drink that the bartender can make quickly. Your coconut creamsicle sounds delicious but may be better as a dessert drink.

We only had one signature drink and it was only served during cocktail hour. That was just the way it worked at our venue.

Have you talked to your VIP guests who will be attending? Their opinions are more important in the long run and you will be hosting them, not internet strangers who have different tastes. If all of your VIPs are in favor of your choice then go for it. The problem with signature drinks in general is that many people don’t like the same thing, and if there are no alternatives, it comes across that you didn’t make the effort to plan well. The same reasoning applies to beer/wine only when some people don’t like either choice and no alternatives are offered so they don’t get anything to drink. Coconut cream/rum is delicious but not everyone enjoys it. Even those who love coconut may not like the orange/pineapple combo. Guests will drink whatever you serve to be polite but it will largely be wasted if not everyone likes it. Unfortunately if you are limiting the drink options to 1 or 2 choices, there are not many that every single person will agree on. That is why you need to ask your guests who are attending.

I’m not planning on calling up 100 people to ask what they would prefer to drink . So I guess I’ll get what I get and if they don’t like it whatever 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think she was suggesting just ask around your crowd. Not to call literally everyone on your guest list.

Im just doing one! It’s totally fine! I recommend going for a crowd pleaser choice.

I think the battlefield sunset looks the best—light and refreshing not to sweet or strong— but maybe ask if they can sub the coconut vodka for regular!
The Mary Monfort also looks like a good staple as it’s kinda like a vodka cranberry.

I think that cocktail sounds great! I disagree that you should have a more mainstream cocktail. This is a great way to reflect yourselves in the cocktail and to introduce guests to something new. You'll also be serving beer and wine, so people will be able to find something to drink. I'm also only doing one signature cocktail.

One signature drink is perfectly fine. We're only having beer and wine at ours, which is a fairly common bar package, so adding on a signature drink would be a nice touch. I think having something more mainstream would likely appeal to a larger number of people, but the idea of a "signature" drink is that it reflects you and your spouse. The main thing I'd be concerned with is getting your money's worth on the signature drink. If the coconut cream drink is something that would be well-received, then go for it, but if nobody is going to drink it then that's money gone to waste.

Not sure if anyone you're inviting has food allergies, but that may be a factor to consider as well with the coconut drink.

Great! Honestly I'd be disappointed if I was at a wedding with a signature cocktail of an old fashioned or tom collins. Yours is exciting! I'm definitely going to try it next time I'm in Gettysburg.
