Only highlight video vs. 15-40 minute video?

MrsPadilla2B, on March 29, 2016 at 5:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

So I have been researching videographers for the past few days that would work within our budget and have decent quality. I have (or maybe had) a budget of $1500. The original videographer I was going for was my sister's music teacher's daughter and her boyfriend. They were charging $1500 for a basic package (last year it was $1100) but I just looked up their site again and it was $1800! Now I found a videographer that me and FH love (and he's a good amateur filmmaker himself), and the package is $1300 for just the 4 minute highlight video. It is $2000 if you want the highlight video and a 15-40 minute video. There is no in-between (except for a $1600 package for only a highlight video with 2 photographers instead of 1). I know a lot of brides regret not having videographers, but I am just wondering what is everyone's thoughts on if I would be ok with just the highlight video or if I should cough up extra for a longer video as well.

Its really up to you, but just wanted to say I mostly only watch our highlight video and only watched the 15-20 minute version once....

When I share our video with friends, I just watch the highlight with them....

Edited: Our highlight video is just over 5 minutes as well (even though our photographer said it would be 2 minutes)

Personally, I'm not having a videographer, but if I did, I would just do the highlight video. Odds are you're not going to want to sit through the whole thing over and over; just the quick version.

We got the highlight video as well as videos of all the important parts of the day like Speeches, ceremony, toasts, cake cutting, first dance, bouquet and garter toss comma Etc. to be honest I'm glad we have all of them. I would be sad if we missed some of the day videos. The highlight video is absolutely wonderful don't get me wrong. But getting videos of other important parts of your day mean just as much.

I have a feeling that "most brides regret not having a videographer" were the same people writing ad copy for old timey print ads.

    Hello MrsPadilla2B,

I worked for Princess Cruises for 5 years where we would sell our packages just on the highlight video alone. A lot of brides end up cutting video out of their budget which is the biggest mistake you can make. I just did my close friend's wedding for free and it still took me about 3 months of nagging her to let me do the video. I only sent her the trailer and her exact words were "You were right." One of the services I offer is 5 hour coverage, raw footage and just a highlight video. I hold on to the footage for about a year so you could always get in contact with me down the line and ask for an edit. Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have! I've done 50+ weddings and even if you don't go with my service I would rather help you figure out what you are looking for then have you miss out!
