Ok so I have a bit of a issues. My fiancé were supposed to get married a few months ago, well long story short he got arrested and is awaiting sentencing(don’t come for me in the comments, I’ve been with this man 3 years and I’m going to always be there by his sid he is my person!!!) Anyways,… Has anyone done a online wedding?! Or know someone that has?! I’m afraid that’s all we are left to do right now because we really want to get married asap we are both super upset we didn’t get to before all this so we really need to find a way to make it possible!

The correctional facility will guide you, maybe help you find an officiant. I have heard persons in the military have online weddings as well.

This jail he is at won’t allow it, we would have to wait till he got to prison to do it. And that could take years unfortunately.

You are going to have to work with the facility he is being held in. I would also contact your local courthouse and see if they can guide you. The biggest hurdle is likely going to be getting the marriage license, as it requires you both to be physically present. So the facility he’s at will need to be onboard with whatever the courthouse requires (I would assume a notary would have to go to the jail).

Online weddings are not legal, from the information I have found direct from state authorities. You have to work with the corrections department to arrange something that works and is legal.

Whether you could do this or not would really depend on your state's laws so you should start by finding out what they need. Like others mentioned, most states require that you appear together to apply for or get the marriage license.

At this point, go ahead and elope. Get an officiant and can married outside in a pretty place like on top of a mountain or by a lake.

I wouldn’t do an online or Zoom wedding. Those were popular during COVID lockdown but nah..I’d rather elope

I wouldn’t rush into marriage right now under these unfortunate circumstances in order to prove that you love him. People can change, and not always for the better. Give yourself time to adjust to life without him and vice versa. There is no way you can predict what life will be like for you one two or five years from now.

If there is potential for him to be behind bars for years then it must have been a pretty serious offense. I’d say more but you wouldn’t want to hear it and none of us know the situation anyway. That said, love is not always enough.

If he’s awaiting sentencing, is there no way for him to get out on bail or ROR? That would allow you time to get married while he’s out and not formally convicted.
