Online vs Mail rvsp

Emily, on January 28, 2020 at 5:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
I’m looking into invitations and I’m having trouble deciding between online RVSP and mail RVSP.

I asked my sister who did online, if she had any trouble getting people to RVSP and she said she did and that she had to beg people to RVSP.
Online saves in postage, but I don’t want to chase a majority of my guests down like she did.

What are your experiences with both? Which do you prefer? Would you go back and change it if you could do it all over again?

I think you’ll have to chase people down regardless of paper or online RSVPs. We only sent paper RSVPs to our elderly guests and still had to chase a lot down.

We did online RSVPs and had no problems. I think with RSVPs you’re going to have to chase people down and remind them no matter the method.

We did both. We sent addressed & stamped RSVPs with our invites, and the RSVP also listed how to do it online if needed. We had to chase down 60 people out of 225 but out of the 180ish that did RSVP, 80% used the paper ones and 20% used online.

So do you think paper is better than online? My only concern is that people will try to bring more people! I’m already at limit with our guests!

I haven't sent invitations yet to tell you about success, but I'm leaning toward a combination because my older guests might not be comfortable with using website. I know if I received both as a guest I'd be more comfortable with online. It may sound silly, but I have yet to figure out outgoing mail in my apartment building. Whenever I've absolutely had to mail things, I've taken them to my office.

I don't think there's any way to get everyone without some chasing. I read a story on another forum where someone had closer relatives (grandparents, aunts/uncles) say things like "why would you think I'm not coming, I'm your [relation]" after she calmly explained she needed official answers for food and such. I can totally see some of my relatives doing the same.

Are you providing postage since you are doing both?

It honestly might depend on how many stamps we have left. I bought 200 stamps when we mailed the save the dates and we have about 80 different addresses to send to. So if we had 80 stamps for save the dates, another 80 for the invites themselves, that would leave 40 for the RSVPs we'd most likely expect to prefer mail

Daughter only did online (for a fairly formal, traditional wedding, with a lot of middle-aged and older guests) and it worked incredibly well.

We did online, and it mostly worked out fine. EVERYONE has to chase down RSVPs, that is an unfortunate reality.

The nice part with online was that we could easily resend the link, and sometimes make it kind of cheeky. (In FB chat: ahem Smiley tongue *link*)

You'll probably have to chase people down, either way. Read the posts about RSVPs. Couples are often posting how many people they had to chase down for a firm yes or no. At best it's a lost art. At worst, it's rude, as it makes the budget for the couple uncertain.

But you should start to accept it now: you will most likely have to chase some people down.

We are doing both online and paper rsvps. And I feel I'll have to chase some people down and find out of they coming.
