Online tux rental

KB, on November 9, 2015 at 9:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Have any of you used BlackTux or Menguin for your suit/tux rentals? I like the idea, but I can't decide between the two. Black tux seems bigger and more established, but I see nothing wrong with Menguin even though its a little smaller. I'd love some input from people who've used them. Our initial experience at Mens Wearhouse wasn't impressive.

I have not used either, but we were considering either black tux or generation tux. Both seemed like great options. Black tux has great online reviews. Generation tux sent you the tux earlier and is coupled with a tailor service. We probably would have gone with Generation tux had we decided to go with an online store. Also you will get more responses if you change your avatar. The newbie thread tell you how to change it. Good luck with the tuxes!

We're using Menguin. We haven't had the wedding yet, so I can't tell you how it worked out -- but we heard/experienced such horror stories from Men's Warehouse that it pushed us to an online rental service.

We thought about using generation tux but I am still a little bit skeptical of using an online tux rental service. I'm nervous that the guys won't measure themselves correctly or when they get the tux in the mail 7 days before the event, it won't fit correctly. Generation tux states they will reimburse you up to $20 for heming the pants or sleeve length but the whole idea still makes me nervous. I think FH and GM are going with purchasing the tux from Joseph A. Bank since they usually run promos like buy 1 get 3 or 4 free. The guy told us he would price match the extras needed so they would be the same price as the others..around $250 for everything.

Thanks for the input everyone! I was a little hesitant about the online rental at first too, but after realizing that you can't really try anything on at the stores anyways, it seems like the way to go. I've ordered swatches from both BT and Menguin just to make sure the fabric is good quality. I like that we'd get the rental earlier this way too. I've read a ton of great reviews, so I guess I'll just go off that and cross my fingers!

RjMargo - thanks for the tip, avatar changed!

My fiance had to wear a menguin suit for a wedding this past October. The material was so cheap that it made a swishy noise every time he moved. It was so awful! I would not recommend Menguin due to the poor material quality.

My husband and his groomsmen wore The Black Tux, and we couldn't have been happier. He's been in so many weddings that used Men's Wearhouse, and everything is baggy and old fashioned, not to mention cheap material. The Black Tux uses really nice material (all wool?) and suits are well made. My husband does a lot of research before he does anything, and he was really happy with how it turned out. Going into it, ordering online and getting the tuxes a week early sounded scary but when he got tuxes from MW for other weddings, they got them a day or two before the wedding and you just take what you get. The Black Tux sent a few of our groomsmen (who have funky bodies, lol) replacements for their jackets or pants after the first ones didn't fit perfectly. They got the new ones 2 days later and they fit perfectly. No disasters! And they live in rural Nebraska where the closest tux shop is over an hour drive. AWESOME customer service. I recommend The Black Tux!

Thank you Molly! We have decided on Menguin, which is super similar to Black Tux. We're about 6 weeks out so fingers crossed everything goes smoothly!

KB - I know this is like 2 years later, but I was hoping for an update on how the suits turned out for Menguin! Hopefully great - but I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks! Smiley smile

    Hi Kerrin,
Well, our groomsmen ended up wearing the gray suits from Menguin and they looked ok, but my husband wasn’t happy with the quality. He said it felt cheap to him and fit a bit awkwardly so he actually ended up returning his and went out and bought a new suit a few days before our wedding! 😳 It stressed me out at the time but he made a good point in that he should feel great on his wedding day.
Overal the service and return process with Menguin was pretty good, but some guys did have fit issues (that could be their own fault with measurements etc).
I hope this helps & good luck with your planning! Have fun!
