Online Save the Dates and Invitations

Tracie, on January 22, 2020 at 9:06 AM Posted in Planning 1 16
Hi ladies.

Before you try to convince me to do paper - it's not possible. We live in Africa, and getting mail to the states for our American guests is extremely expensive, and very unreliable.

So, that being said, does anyone have recommendations for doing online Save the Dates and invitations? Our wedding is on a vineyard, dressy casual.

I don't have any recommendations for online Save the Dates/invitations, but there are websites that will mail them out for you when you order them. It's a certain amount extra per invite (I'm thinking of Shutterfly personally, but I'm sure other popular sites do too) and they would be coming from the US so it shouldn't be nearly as expensive. Just an idea in case the electronic option doesn't pan out Smiley smile

I'm not sure of many sites that are specifically made for sending cute e-vites (in my mind I'm still picturing an email that when is opened looks like a traditional Save the Date/Invitation) but what you could always do is go to a site like minted, Shutterfly, Vistaprint, etc. where people often create their paper-products and begin the process of choosing a design you like, and using the personalize feature to include your specific details and picture. Then maybe you could take a screen shot or use the snipping tool on your computer to save this image and email save the dates out that way?

Hopefully others have had more experience with this and will be able to help more Smiley smile

Try paperless post. You can use them for digital invitations but they also offer printing so if you wanted to get matching menus, wedding programs, or a handful of paper invitations for certain guests you could. I believe some of their designs also have matching website templates.

I did electronic Save the Dates! I actually used greetings island (which is free) and made them myself and send them via email! Our wedding is going to be small and just family and close friends, so I just gave everyone a head's up to keep and eye out for them and sent them that way. When they arrive they pop out of the envelope and you receive an email once the person opens it.

Wouldn't they have a watermark on them though?

I didn't know this was an option! I'll keep that in mind if we decide to go with paper. I like the appeal of being eco friendly though with electronic invites

This sounds perfect, because we will possibly need menus.

My parents live in Uganda so I sent them their save the date via email.

I have a spreadsheet with everyone's mailing address, and if they are outside of the US (which almost half of the guests are) I have their email address instead. Like with my parents, I emailed the save the dates to all internationally-based guests, and will email the invites to them as well. I'm doing all RSVPs online, except for one elderly guest who doesn't use a computer.

I got the design through Vistaprint, and honestly just took a screenshot of it and saved it as a .jpg and popped it in an email. Then I kept track in my spreadsheet who had been sent the save the date. You could do this same thing with a shutterfly design as well.

Paperless is becoming more common nowadays, so people shouldn't have an issue with it! You might want to double check with people to make sure they got the save the dates though so that they know to keep an eye out for the invite! You don't want anyone to be left out because they weren't expecting a paperless invite!

    You can try:

    1. Evite

    2. Withjoy

    3. Greenvelope

    4. Paperlesspost

    5. The Knot (possibly)

    Good luck!

Paperless Post is the only one I know of, but I haven't tried them.

We just sent our Save the Dates via email. I designed it myself in Photoshop and then emailed it to all of our invited guests using the BCC field in my gmail account. We did use InkCards to send a physical postcard version to relatives because some of them are older and don't use email or the internet much. We are planning to send physical invites to all of our guests, but emailing the STDs was super fast and easy and cost nothing!
