Online rsvp - seats saved?

annakac, on October 18, 2018 at 2:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

So we have decided to save money on stamps/envelopes we are only doing online RSVPs - our family will definitely be okay with it. It will be online through our website with The Knot and I have it set so that only people on the guest list can RSVP. Even though I'm doing that, should I still include the ____ seats saved in your honor on the card with the RSVP info? They can't technically RSVP someone who wasn't invited but maybe this will deter people from bringing someone extra anyway?

Hi! I am also doing online-only RSVP and I chose to do the ____ seats saved on the RSVP card. My reasoning is that you don't want people to find out that they don't have a plus one or something when they go to the website with the expectation of RSVP-ing for one. You want to let your guests know how many seats they have before they make the decision to RSVP on your website.

I did not so that I could keep the same online rsvp for everyone. I was very careful to address the envelopes so that guests would know who was and wasn't invited. Honestly a person who is going to ignore the envelope is going to ignore the seats as well. We had a friend cross out 2 and put the number 9 haha

I did not include a card with the # of seats saved. My online RSVP program allowed me to include a drop down box that indicated the number of people that were planning on attending. Like if I invited a family of 4, for that group those 4 names were listed and the person RSVPing could choose, 4, 3, 2 or 1 person attending. So, it was impossible to RSVP for more people than I actually invited. My guests would know who was invited based on the names included on the invitation so I just felt the card wasn't necessary. It worked out great for me!

That's a good point on how people should know based on how the envelope is addressed.

My fiancé has a big family (mom has over 10 siblings) and they also have huge families. I didn't want to say "to the blablabla family" when the blablabla family may consist of 10 people, not all who are invited (some are college kids, some we've never met, etc). That's why we felt that we had to specify a number.
