Savvy August 2023

One year out

Caitlin, on July 20, 2022 at 6:19 PM Posted in Planning 4 5
August 5 it will be one year until I get married. What are some things I should be talking to our wedding venue about at this point?

If you've already signed the contract there really isn't much else to discuss at this point. A year is still pretty far out, but I know it doesn't feel like it lol. When it starts to get closer you can finalize the details with them.

Hi Caitlin! I remember our venue wouldn’t discuss details till about 3 months prior, however, there are things you can do now to prepare.

Our venue needed to know when our various vendors would arrive onsite (Cake, florist, DJ). When you do meet with your venue, ask how early can vendors setup, who will do tear down and what time expected for all tear down to be completed. Also ask who will be their contact in case one of your vendors is locked out of the venue. Hope this helps!! ❤️

There really wasn't anything I needed to discuss with my venue that far out. At 6 months, I set a preliminary menu from the options they gave us and we did a tasting. I'm two months out now and just sent over finalized options. We have two meetings scheduled with them before the day - 1 is to tour the grounds to look at their various photo spots (they recently renovated their grounds) and we do that next weekend. Then at three weeks out, we meet with the owner, the manager and our day of coordinator (they provide one) to go over all the final details (vendors, arrival times, what needs set up where, contact info for everyone, final numbers, any last minute changes to menu, etc) and then we work specifically with our day of coordinator in those final few weeks if we need anything or she has any questions, comments, etc. We're bringing all decor that we're providing with us the day before at the rehearsal and I have photos of how I want table layouts.

Hello! I am getting married 08/05/2023 as well! I feel like I started everything super early! Is your venue outdoors? If you haven’t seen it recently maybe you could schedule to go out around august 5th to see what it looks like? That’s what we are doing. We booked with them last year and it is outside so we are going around august 5th to see how it looks during this time so we have an idea of what it will look like outside when we get married!

Hi, we just booked for August 5, 2023 too! The main thing we did when we went to sign the contract was look at the outdoor spaces since it’ll be about the same time next year and ask any questions about time line for the big day and any pricing questions. They said our next step was not until 6 months before the wedding to come sample food and select our cake and table linens!
