One week away and I’m so anxious i can’t sleep.

My wedding is next Friday and I am so anxious. I haven’t been sleeping well. I’m also sick so that sucks.
What do you do to calm yourself down? I am trying so hard to relax. Last night it took me so long to get to sleep. I had to put on some white noise and sleep in a different position. I took 10 mg of melatonin. I think I need to continue taking it and also take it a while before I’m ready to sleep.

Oh no! Try to establish a nightly routine to help relax before you sleep. Put away screens at least half an hour before bed, don't drink caffeine after 6 pm if you can and avoid sugar after dinner (it keeps you awake and can actually lead to nightmares!). Another tip is to NOT look at the clock if you can't sleep. All it does is cause more anxiety. And finally try some self-care like a nice bath, facemask, journaling, or some nighttime tea!

my FH has insomnia and some of these tips are what he does to help him sleep every night. I hope this helps! Deep breath and everything will be okay! Smiley heart

Thank you! I think I have been freaking out even more because I normally never have any trouble with sleep.

When I'm feeling anxious another thing I do is mindfulness exercises to help sleep! One of the ones that helps my mind calm down the most is laying completely still and focusing on one body part at a time without thinking about anything else. Start with your feet and think about how they feel and just be aware of them, then your legs, back ,etc. It's really calming and can take your mind off of things!

I second this. Meditation and mindfulness is something that can just shut the thoughts off for a little while so you can sleep Smiley smile also try ocean sounds while you go to bed Smiley smile

This is what I do when I have anxiety it really helps me, it's called the 5-4-3-2-1 Coping Technique:

5: Acknowledge 5 things you can see around you.

4: Acknowledge 4 things you can touch around you.

3: Acknowledge 3 things you can hear around you.

2: Acknowledge 2 things you can smell around you

1: Acknowledge 1 thing you can taste around you.

It helps me distract myself from whatever is causing me anxiety. It's a little harder to do at night in bed, but it helps me if I'm having problems sleeping.

If I can't sleep the night before and know it's going to happen again the next day, I go run a few miles to get myself tired. I get even more tired if I shower and then have dinner because I was running on empty and then filled myself.

The last 2 weeks were a nightmare for me! I was so stressed and sleep didn’t come easily.
Worry about the big things (if there are any left) and then let everything else go. You’ve done all you can do. I think I finally slept the Thursday before since that was the last opportunity for me to do anything.
In general I have trouble sleeping so no tips in that matter. I used to take melatonin and it helped me a lot.
