One or Two Photographers

Angela, on October 27, 2020 at 8:52 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Hi all,

150 person wedding - do I really really need 2 photographers? What are the pros and cons? Fiance doesn't have much interest in capturing his get-ready photos, so I'm thinking the only plus would be an additional camera to pick away at first look and post ceremony portraits? Does anyone feel like two photographers was essential in capturing the best candid reception moments? ORRRR do I have one photographer stay a little later into the night?

Thanks,

Angela

I would recommend two photographers if it's in budget - you'll be able to get photos from multiple angles during the ceremony, first look, etc, and each photographer can capture photos of different groups of people during the reception = more moments captured. Especially if you don't have a videographer, I think two photographers would be a good idea. However, if it's not in budget, you'd also be totally fine with one photographer.

Having two photographers was an absolute must for me!

It was especially great for the ceremony. One photographer was able to capture shots of me walking down the aisle and the other was able to get my husband and guests’ reactions.

    You’ll probably want 2... that’s a moderately sized wedding.

My photographer told me that she always recommends having a second shooter if there are over 100 guests in attendance.

We are having 145 guests (pending Covid doesn’t damper that next year) and we are having 2 photographers. It was an absolute must for me. We are not doing a first look so it was important for me to have a second person to capture my fiancé’s reaction when I walk down the aisle. Plus, one photographer will be with him getting some of the bridal party photos out of the way while the other is with me prior to the ceremony. So for me it’s an absolutely need situation.

I would 100% recommend having two shooters. The second shooter for our wedding did do getting ready with my husband and his guys, but he also scouted the venue for good photo opportunities while his wife (the main photographer) was with me and my girls. Otherwise, she would have had to taken the time to scout out the venue herself since she had never been there before. He also captured some of my favorite photos. Having two photographers enables more photos to be captured and from different angles.

We’re having around 80 (if that) guests so we’re only have 1 shooter.

For 150 guests I would definitely have 2 photographers. If it was under 100 I would say 1 would be okay, but your guest count is high!

If it’s in your budget then I think it’s good to have to just because one can take detailed photos and the other can take me in photos of people in your party

As long as it is in your budget to to do so I highly suggest the 2 photographers because it could be that one photographer is capturing a moment with you and your fiance, but the other sees another special moment happen and is able to capture it as well.

I suggest 2. With only 1, you will miss out on so many moments and shots. Having 2 will allow you to get the same shot from different angles, which I can tell you from experience, really makes a difference!
