One company being negative about the other?

Amanda, on January 9, 2019 at 4:31 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 20

Ladies have you had any vendors diss another company you hired? I am really upset as I was debat8ng between two musician groups, Classical Charleston and Low Low Country Pianist. I told Classical we went with the other group without saying their name. Immediately, classical emailed saying if I think it is who you are going through to hire, they are students and not good but wish you best of luck.

So I responded asking for which group he was referring to. So he says then in a reply he cannot recall their name and ended me to tell him.

That sounded fishy and just unprofessional. Glad I did not hire Classical Charleston. And the sound clips from Low Country pianist as well as reviews, are all top notch!

I think it was a diss so that you would go with them, I find it very tacky when a vendor bad talks about someone else there is enough business to go around

I think it sounds a little childlike to react that way! I wouldn't want to work with anyone who reacted like that - it's unprofessional and tacky. A simple "Sorry to hear we won't be working together, best of luck." would have done the job.

They were so unprofessional! And they didn't even KNOW who you hired. What if you had hired a group from another town over? I did have vendors want to know who I ended up hiring and sometimes I shared that info and other times I didn't. I based it on how much interaction I had spent with the vendor I was turning down and if I felt comfortable sharing.

Oh gross! How tacky for them to react that way. It sounds like you made the best choice. If they act that way then they are probably very unprofessional. Not to mention this should be a fun experience that your vendors have good spirits and attitudes about. They probably would have changed the experience for you in a very negative way. Dodged a bullet if you ask me!

We had a videographer so that to us. We already were 99% sure we wanted to go with who we decided on, but we were making final calls to other vendors just to be sure. One of the other vendors completely trashed the company we ended up going with. That was an instant no for him from us!

Omg..seriously? Now I got this response from them after telling them I did not think my group was the same one they were trying to refer to, yet now I actually think it is the same group which I hired, Low Country pianist. I am not sure how they can be bad as reviews on and off this website are amazing and they seems very professional. Here is Classical Charleston’s latest email that freaks me out

    Classical Charleston

I think you've found the group I saw in person, but no reason to panic. My
goal isn't to stress you out. Believe it or not, I'm not in this business
just for the money. I enjoy being a resource and helping to guide
potential clients to choosing the right musicians. That said, I'm not sure
that an ARCT degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada is
anything more than a school completion certificate for kids that start in
kindergarten and progress thru middle school or around 12 years old, and
focusing on music. It's not a university i don't think, and does not mean
the graduate is of a professional caliber. The only musician on their list
that is a known professional in the area is Christopher Teves (guitar).
That's not to say they won't do an amazing job, or that perhaps someone I
don't know (on their list) is good and is just brand new to the area. I'm
not going to look into it any further, but at least now you know what I
    know.

Becca was the company good for the videography you ended up going with or was the vendor that trashed it correct that the did not do a good job. I am just scared as of the above email I received just a minute ago from the trashing vendor.

Now he just sent this when I had replied to his long email above saying thanks for tour concern.

P.S. My grounds for professional are my own.. For me professional artists

are ones who are hired to play with the Charleston Symphony, hold faculty
positions at the College of Charleston, or are hired regularly to perform
for reputable Charleston based concert series. -Just to clarify.

I also think this company you like will indeed work hard to do a good job
    for you. Smiley smile

I should of mentioned.. I thought it was Lowcountry Pianist
and Co.. Take care. Smiley smile

    Best,

    Andrew”

If your vendors have had a specific negative experience working the same wedding together and they politely informed you of something that could directly effect you (“we worked with this officiant more than once and he was late to the wedding both times”) I’d take that to do my research, but to boldly talk badly about a competitor with nothing to back them up- so gross.

The multiple follow up emails are making me uncomfortable. I wouldn’t hire Andrew for anything.

Thanks Augusta. I agree. He was really scaring me but in listening to Low country’s piano playing again and reading reviews, I know they are very good. Despite his negativity

He sounds like a pompous jerk. And kept digging himself deeper into a hole! Lol

I think you made the right decision. He is probably losing business to them and becoming upset over it.

Honestly, this response seems so snobbish and elitist. I hired a string quartet for my first wedding and a string duo for my second wedding and they were incredible musicians but wouldn't qualify as "professionals" based on his definition - which is so narrow! There are plenty of wonderful musicians who don't play in the symphony, teach at a college, or perform in concert series.

Also, for what it's worth, I would have gladly hired student musicians at local colleges but I got married over Christmas break so they weren't available. I went to college with quite a few students getting degrees in music and they were amazing musicians who would have performed beautifully at weddings. So I don't know what his problem with student musicians is - by the point they are in college they are usually exceptionally skilled and talented with their instrument of choice.

I had a vendor be extremely rude. I just shrugged it off & it made me glad I didn’t go with them.
