OMG my ring majorly bent!!! :( (Update on page 2)

Mrs. F-u-..., on July 3, 2014 at 11:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

I took my ring off this morning to clean it and holy @#%# my ring is f&#^ed up! I have no idea how this happens. I wear it all the time so I didn't notice what day it happened. I have been wearing it everywhere (FH prefers that) including the gym. I think that may be the cause. I almost cried this morning.

Oh no. Is it insured? I would take it where you got it and see what they can do.

Rings conform to your finger, it was probably gradual. Also, the tighter the fit, the more it will bend.

I take mine off when I head to the gym.

Sorry that happened. Take it to your jeweler. Hopefully they can fix it.

Woah that is a major warping of the metals. Do you lift metal weights - any metal on metal contact can do this to a ring but that is pretty significant. DO NOT WEAR IT until it is fixed because the stone can fall right out since the overall integrity of the ring is compromised.

If it's 18k, like mine, it will bend pretty easily. Mine starts to form into an oval over time because I squeeze it at the top and bottom when I'm nervous. It shouldn't take much to fix it.

My Bikram Yoga instructor bent her ring during yoga once. There is so much pressure on your hands during certain exercises, that I would really recommend taking it off at those times.

I have a ring (not my E-ring) that I wear so much that the "back" part closest to my palm actually flatten out and completely warped the ring, but its still wearable. I was stoked with FH picked out my E-ring, that same part on on it is actually flat

WHOA!!! Always take your ring off doing things like workingout, chores, gardening etc. The chemicals aren't good for the metal.

Something I learned from a previous bride in my family when my FH were deciding on rings. If you are looking for durably you should go with sterling silver or 10k. Its just a measure of how pure and soft the metal is no one will know what K your ring is unless you tell them. I have a 14K engagement ring but opted for a 10K band because I work in a Lab, I use me hand a lot and not to mention the amount of hand washing. Plus it was cheaper Smiley smile

On Sunday afternoon I noticed one of my prongs was completely bent not holding my diamond in the setting anymore. We rushed it right to the jeweler & I still don't have it back Smiley sad It's the worst when your ring gets damaged. I can't wait to get mine back.. but luckily thats why you have insurance on rings. Hopefully the jeweler can fix yours too!

Sterling silver is not durable. It bends very very easily. All of my rings before my engagement and school rings were sterling silver and they were all warped by the time I removed them and replaced them with the "important" rings. I once caught a sterling silver ring on a door handle and had to spend some time getting it oval-y again because it was like a "V" when I got it off. My platinum high school ring always kept it's shape, though. My college ring is 14k or 18k (I don't remember) white gold, and it has maintained it's shape so far (5 years) and my e-ring and wedding band are platinum so that they will never warp.

Take your ring to a jeweler. They can fix it for you, and ask them to check that the prongs haven't been compromised. After our jeweler resized my ring, we didn't give them enough time to look it over because we had to drive back home 3 1/2 hours and one of the diamonds in the band fell out. My FH had to take it back when he went back to Houston and they were able to fix it real fast. No problems since!

Porsha, sterling silver is super soft and would bend too.

I work in a jewelry store, I always tell customers not to wear their ring while lifting anything heavy or at the gym because it can warp your rings and seriously damage your stones.

Rings should not e worn for EVERYTHING

Lesson learned - I don't wear jewelry often so wearing a ring daily is new to me. It's off to the shop today. Will have it back next week. Smiley sad

    Wow thats crazy!

Just as a tip don't wear your to the gym or anything super active. When my FH bought my ring it came with information on what you shouldn't do with your ring on. They are:

    -Showering

    -Any rough activites (gym etc)

    -Washing dishes

-Swimming (especially in pools. Chlorine changes the color of your ring over time)

-Sleeping (Should be the last thing off and first thing on in the morning.)

@Ashley - I'm totally showing this to FH. That is how I was wearing the ring and then he's like, "Why are you taking it off? You can wear it everywhere, you don't need to take it off." Boom! I was right! #win hahahaha

Platinum warps, too. That it doesn't is a myth. I have a platinum ring that's 14 years old and it's slightly warped from years of wearing.
