omg I'm already overwhelmed

Sarah, on December 7, 2021 at 9:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I don't even know where to start, but where i lost it was suggestions for what the groomsmen will wear. I was just thinking I can find the dress and maybe the flowers and the church. But then there are like 800 other things! I think I'm just having a moment. i don't really having anyone to help, which is fine. but someone please tell me that this is normal and it will be ok.

It’s normal. Just focus on one thing at a time and items will slowly get done.

Thank you for saying that. I knew that planning a wedding can be a lot of work. So, I kind of knew that coming in. But I think I had just thought about it logically. But now that I'm here, my heart is racing and it feels like I'm climbing a mountain. It's funny, I wasn't really that nervous until I got on this website and saw all the things I have to do!

I know it's going to fine and that I'm just having a panic attack. But I really appreciate your kind words and advice.

It’s helped me to make a list of what I want to accomplish each week and cross them off. Keeping it in smaller sizes makes it less overwhelming. I definitely understand where you’re coming from. Know you’re not alone! 😊

Totally normal! Wedding planning is overwhelming for sure. One thing that has helped me is by using the checklist on The Knot (WeddingWire has one too!) and keeping track of what I needed to accomplish each month. Everything will work out in the end!

I agree with everyone that lists can really help (make sure to first cross out anything you don't need/aren't interested in if you use a pre-fab list). But also, you shouldn't be doing this alone. This is the time to collaborate with your partner. If you each only have 400 tasks (Smiley tongue ), wouldn't that be better?

Thank you, Lisa! I looked at the Knot and I do like their website. It's actually the only wedding website that I heard of. A few days ago I had done a search for best wedding planner sites and wedding wire was the best for Couples who don't know where to start. That's why i'm here! Smiley smile

Thanks, Maggie! I saw a lot of things on the list that I was like, that's not going to happen. So good to know that deleting them is option.

Totally agree that 400 is better than 800! And in a perfect world... The good news is that I both like and love his mom and I trust her. And since my mom isn't around, I think this will be a great opportunity for both of us.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support. I don't really have panic attacks very often, so i can't tell you how much i appreciate what you said. It's day 2 now, I'm feeling way better. My friends are already distracting me with wedding dress quizzes. So there's that.

Anyway, thank you for getting me through my moment. I am very thankful for what you did.

You're welcome! And while this list helps I would suggest to add one or two more months according to their time frame for everything. The reason being is because a lot of brides are getting married in 2022 so just make sure you can secure your dress, alterations, cake, venue, photographer, etc. So, take it easy! It really does seem overwhelming lol. But definitely see if your girls or any family members can help too Smiley smile They can reach out in emails by CCing you on things, making calls, etc. My husband's cousin was our wedding planner/coordinator and she was such a big help.

Thanks, Heather! Great advice and a little scary. I hope this doesn't drive prices up, but I guess it is what it is. Good idea on CCing, I already have a Wedding email folder with multiple subfolders! My future mother-in-law has already graciously agreed to help. She doesn't have a daughter so she seems thrilled about being involved. Although her enthusiasm worries me about what I may have unleashed!
Smiley smile My maid of honor says she will completely help manage the bachelorette party trip. My girlfriends and I went out for margaritas for wedding ideas but we were not very productive Smiley winking .

I want to thank you and everyone who offered advice again. I feel like I've joined a community that is so nice and caring. Smiley heart

I also get overwhelmed easily. Here’s my suggestions

    1. Make a bookmark tab on your computer for the wedding. Maybe even separate stuff within that folder to go back to later.
    2. Have a binder. When you book vendors print out your contracts and put them in there to keep track of. Also you can put any notes or thoughts you have written down in that binder.
    3. Make sure you book your vendors asap. With so many weddings pushed off due to the pandemic you wouldn’t want to miss out on a vendor you really like. I know generally you can wait on some things but I think next year will be busier than usual because of the pandemic

Thank you, Taylor! I appreciate your advice. I don't have a printer for printing out the contracts but have been looking for a reason to buy one! Smiley smile Wedding Wire makes it so easy to request quotes from vendors, I love it. I just got my first quote from a vendor for the wedding location. They have availability which is great since I think I like them the best. But they also said that they only book one event per day which I guess makes sense, but it immediately made my heart race. I'm trying to get there asap with my fiance to check it out. Just hoping we don't lose it! Not sure if i'll have this panic for every vendor, but it will be nice to pin down the site especially since they are full service. Thanks again for your great suggestions!

I definitely was overwhelmed and stressed about getting each vendor. I actually found a lot of my vendors as suggestions through my venue or I had already saw people I liked on instagram that I found through other people. Only my videographer was found via google search lol. As long as you stay focused and organized and make a list of vendors you need you should be fine. I will say finding so many vendors at once meant a lot of emailing back and forth and setting up video/phone calls. And some vendors even were okay texting! But that’s great that your location is full service (ours is not but it actually made it cheaper for us that way although a little more stressful). You’ll be fine!

I haven't really gotten to know my preferred location vendor, hope to do that when we visit it. But I can totally see how that would be a great resource. I mean all of these wedding vendors must kinda know each other, right? i'm not on instagram, but my friends are. And it is a huge resource. And pinterest seems like a really great site too. I keep telling myself that i've only been doing this a week, so it's okay. but it feels like a sprint. I think getting the big vendors crossed off will calm my nerves. But i'm like my own worst enemy and keep looking at dresses. Also my diet has totally changed. Blue berries and some mentos for breakfast. Carrots, broccoli and a pickle for lunch. I never appreciated pickles so much, it's totally the highlight!

I see that your getting married in October too. You seem like you have everything together, I'm so jealous! But happy for you too. I so appreciate your help. And everyone on this site has been so supportive.

My venue has all kinds of vendor suggestions on their site which is super helpful. We didn’t pick all but some from there. I started planning in October and became totally obsessed with making sure I had everything together that now I have all my vendors, what I want my bridesmaids to wear, we have the plan for what my fiancé and groomsmen are going to wear and I have dress appointments next month. I don’t know what to do now. I also already have a bunch of decorations 😅 I seem put together but I am very stressed and overwhelmed lol. I went a little crazy and was a little TOO focused on it. When you start to feel like it’s a little much remember you can take a breather. I took on planning our wedding, starting a business, looking for a new RV and truck (as we’re hoping to hit the road after the wedding full time) and both of us trying to find remote jobs because we both definitely want out of our current jobs. I feel like I’ve lost my mind and totally don’t recommend so much at once. The stress might kill me

I get being your own worst critic too. I started losing weight after the engagement and I’m planning to go back to the gym soon. I’ve definitely struggled with hanging my diet for sure though.
I use Pinterest all the time! It’s a great resource to get ideas.
But congratulations on the engagement and the wedding! I’m sure you’ll be fine and figure it out! Let me know if you have any questions!!
