Older Flower girls - help!

sss1114, on May 6, 2019 at 10:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
My nieces and FH’s nieces all want to be flower girls, and all excitedly asked me to be in the wedding before I even had a chance to think about it. Now I have four flower girls, all different ages (4-10) and sizes. I think the older two are a little too old, but they’re excited about it so who cares.
I’m having trouble finding dresses for them-the older two are also overweight which is making it even trickier to find dresses that work. Any tips for finding larger flower girl dresses?

Have you looked into maybe getting the older girls a Junior Bridesmaid dress. These might accommodate not only their age but size better than a flower girl dress.

My flower girl will be 7 and the ring bearers 12. I’ve heard f people having a great grandma as a flower girl too. Do you! 🤷🏾‍♀️
You can check Azazie. They have plenty of junior bridesmaid stuff if you want to go that way. You can even order a custom measurement fit and have them reimburse up to a certain amount if there need to be alterations afterward.

They don't need to be labeled "flower girl dresses." Any dress in the color you designate will work. I would check out regular department stores like Nordstrom or Macy's.

Daughter had two FG's, ages 4 & 10, so they cover your girls' age span. Their dresses were from David's; they were simple tea-length dresses with full tulle skirts, and were only $39 (https://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_flower-girl-dress-with-tulle-and-ribbon-waist-op218_flower-girl-dresses). She specifically chose them because they were matching dresses available in the size range she needed. (They also ordered the fabric sash with the big bow. I think they only come in one-size, and the older girl's was really tight. I ended up pinning in closed with large safety pins underneath the bow so she could breathe. It probably would have been better and less expensive if we'd made their sashes rather than buy them from DB.) The girls looked adorable and loved their dresses. And, the older one was the most awesome FG! The little one really didn't have a clue what was going on, threw a huge fit at the rehearsal, and slept through the entire reception. If they want to be FG's, I think the older two will have a blast and the little ones can just be along for the ride, if that better suits them. Good luck! Smiley heart

I don’t know what your budget is or if you have someone close to you who knows how to sew but my flower girl is working with FMIL to make her own dress. She is a little older (11) so this also ensures the dress isn’t too young for her. They bought the pattern at michael’s and we all went together to pick fabric. Bouns: great bonding time between her Grandmom and her!

I don’t think 10 is too old at all, especially if she is excited! My flower girl will be 7, but I’m not a fan of the typical poofy FG dress, so will be looking at junior bridesmaid dresses as well as dresses from local department stores. It certainly doesn’t need to be labeled as a FG dress.

I agree with PPs that they are not too old. I had 3 flower girls and they were 7, 9, and 11. Their grandmother actually made their dresses for them by using ballet leotards and tulle.
