Older flower girl

Renee, on June 13, 2019 at 7:15 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11
So when I was talking about the wedding (something I do all the time) my 12 year old daughter made a comment about being the flower girl and I told her that she was a bridesmaid. Apparently all this time she thought she was the flower girl. Would it be weird to have a 12 year old as a flower girl? She said she was fine with being a bridesmaid but I feel like she was kinda disappointed

We're having an 11 year old flower girl. Traditionally I think they're a little old for the role, but who really cares? As long as she's happy and you and your FS are fine with it, I say go for it.

You can do whatever. I think double digits is too old for flower girl.
    Maybe ask her to choose?

Agreed with PPs - it's probably older than a typical flower girl, but I think if that's the role she wants, that's the role she should get.

I think it would be awesome for her to be a flower girl! My FH is having his 11 year old sister and our 8 year old niece as flower girls.

My cousin also had our grandma as her flower girl because we didn't have any children in the family at the time. Do what you want Smiley smile

Traditionally it is a role for younger children, but she’s at an age where she can make her own choices. I would give her the option and see what her opinions are on it. Maybe she prefers a flower girl style dress instead of a bridesmaid one.

It wouldn't be weird, unless maybe you included other flower girls that were like 3 years old. If she want's to be the flower girl, then I'd let her...keep them young and innocent as long as you can mama!

My flower girl is 12 as well! I also have a 2 1/2 year old flower girl, they will be walking together. But I never thought twice about her being too old for it!

I think I was 12 when I was a flower girl for my cousin's wedding. I was the only one who made it down the aisle. The younger flower girl was 5 years old and had a complete meltdown 1 minute before the procession. It's safer to go older.

I'm going the opposite way, my flower girl and ring bearer will be 3 years old at the time of my wedding. If they don't make it down the aisle I won't really care, they will look cute in their outfits and I got to see them and that's all that matters.

I had a BM drop out and I asked the older of my God daughters if she would want to be a bridesmaid instead of a flower girl. She's 9. She was super excited to get to wear a "grown up dress and shoes" along with makeup like the other girls. I let her choose and she wanted to be included with the grown ups.

Why not do both? She seemed genuinely excited to take on the role. And who cares if she's "too old"? A friend of mine had a 23 year old flower girl at her wedding. Smiley xd
