Old-Fashioned Soda Bar?

Katie, on March 8, 2016 at 12:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

We would love to include a fun type of "bar" for our wedding. We've discussed traditional popcorn, candy, or smores bars. We decided we might try an old-fashioned soda bar with a variety of different sodas. Both of our favorite drink is Cheerwine which is an old soda found in the Southeast. We would love to be able to include this because we always love trying old-fashioned sodas whenever we are out and about. Our venue has a cute display cart we can use to put a couple of tubs filled with ice and bottles of soda. Our color scheme is rich fall berry tones. My mother thinks it will look too rustic for our hotel venue. We have no rustic decor at all. Any suggestions on how to make it look nice? Or if it is a bad idea :/

I love the idea, but I would need to see pictures of what you already have compared to how you want to do this bar.

I don't think you need to make it look rustic to match your venue. Personally I think this sounds awesome and now I'm going to google ideas for you.

Not knowing what you already have in mind this is what I found...I'm guessing the cart definitely doesn't look like the second option.

If you're just using the cart they have as a base you can use anything functional for the soda bar in what ever style you want. They sell tons of cute straws at Michael's and Hobby Lobby.

That sounds like so much fun! FH is hell bent on having a specific pop/soda for our reception so we will be ordering some with a similar vibe.

I think if you have the right cart it wouldn't be "too rustic".

I think it will be awesome. I don't think it will look too rustic no mater what you do. It sounds like so much fun.

I think it's a great idea. We actually did this at our wedding and everyone loved it. My mother is the manager of a cracker barrel and that's where we got everything. They have a TON of vintage sodas and candies too. If there is one near you you should check it out.

So I couldn't find the exact cart but here is one that looks very similar. It's the same dark brown wood. The cart at the venue has a green mini curtain that lines the top.

I like the lights of the other cart. I would probably have two copper (our accent color matching centerpieces) tubs filled with ice and some of the soda. Then build little temp shelves to hold the rest of the soda as a display. I was thinking of putting ivy garland down in front of the cart to match the ceremony space that is covered in ivy. I would probably ask the DOC to keep an eye on it to refill the buckets with ice/soda when they got low. Then once we were out of soda just be done. The cart would be sitting next to a wall so maybe I could put up a sign with all the flavors as a mini backdrop?

@Reggie oh that's funny! That is where we actually came up with the idea. We ate at Cracker Barrel last night and saw that they had Cheerwine which is something we have never seen in Iowa. Do you happen to have pictures of how you set it up?
