Okay to invite kids to one wedding and not the other?

Velarka, on May 3, 2023 at 12:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

We’re interfaith so we are having a ceremony A+lunch reception on Day 1 and ceremony B+evening reception on Day 2. The venues are different. Day 1 venue can accommodate more people than Day 2.

Our guest list has grown so we’re trying to figure out now how to cut it. We sent save the dates out already, they were digital so not addressed to specific individuals. One idea I had was to allow all children on Day 1 but only allow children of those flying from out of town on Day 2 (~5 kids), since Day 2 is evening and more formal. So basically, those who are local (~10 kids from 5 families) would only be invited to our daytime wedding.
Since it’s kind of like 2 weddings, I figure this way still allows all the kids to come to something at least (and local parents only have to find childcare for 1 day, not both).
Is this a terrible idea?

That sounds very inconvenient for the parents. Invite kids to both or none.

I agree with Michelle, I would either do both or neither. But not one.

Invite children to both and you will receive less calls asking which day is family day because guests forgot, or they need exceptions. I have been a guest at 2-day interfaith weddings and the 2nd party is usually much quieter and ends early. If you invite the whole family, maybe it will be more festive.
