How much has some of your officiants cost/took a donation and how much are you thinking for a tip if you are tipping?

In my area officiants were charging like $500. FH's uncle got ordained online for free and will officiate. This will be his wedding gift to us, and we will also get him a small gift which we haven't figured out yet. I couldn't justify spending $500 on some stranger to give a 15 minute speech.

We booked a friend of the family last year. She charges $200. We gave a $50 deposit but just last night decided to have a friend of ours do it. Someone who knows us. It will be more personal for us. So we lost the $50 but saved $150 for him to get ordained online for free. It was a win win!

A friend of ours will become ordained for our wedding. So as payment, we'll be reimbursing him for any costs he accrues.

We paid $400 for ours in Northeast PA. We were planning to tip him $50, but we had a ton of trouble communicating with him (missed phone meetings several times). The icing on the cake was when he told us he would be there for our rehearsal and never showed. The ceremony went well, and we were in the resort lobby taking photos when my husband saw him walking out the door - he was supposed to give the blessing before dinner and we had paid for him and his guest to eat dinner at their request! I was livid! no tip for him!

Ours is $350. Spendier than I was hoping, but we didn't want a religious ceremony so cheaper pastors were out and VA makes it nearly impossible for a friend to get ordained and do the ceremony. So $350 it is.

Thank you all for your help so far. We do have my uncle doing it so we wanted to be prepared to pay him incase he doesn't mention it.

I'm so glad the ceromony went good, considering it sounds terrible to deal with from start to finish, and the extra plates. No tip was deffinately and okay thing.

There is no cost for us (it's FH's pastor). So we will be donating $200 to the church
