Officiant

Hey y’all..
FH and I want our wedding to be as personal/private as possible so we’re trying to limit the number of vendors as much as possible. We’re using some family property for our venue as well as making the food ourselves (with the help of other family members of course) and DIYing most of our decorations and such. When it came down to the topic of our officiant it’s been kind of a struggle. We originally asked FH’s grandpa and he was more than willing and even excited to do it. But we haven’t been able to find anywhere for him to get ordained without having to send him on a wild goose chase to courthouses to make it official. So we called that off. Then we asked another one of my family members but he’s only ordained in his state (which is different from ours). My mom is a notary so we thought about having FH’s grandpa do the reading as originally planned and then having my mom notarize the documents but we don’t want to do anything that wouldn’t make our wedding legal because we’ve put so much time into planning the perfect day already. Any suggestions of legitimate websites we could use for FH’s grandpa or any other ideas?

What state do you live in? Some have had authorization programs where you apply to do one wedding, they register the person, check on the paperwork before to make sure License has been obtained. And file papers. Others give a person of good character (?) The authority which like a marriage life cense, expires in 30-60 days.
And it seems likely that some places that never had that, do temporarily. See in your state, or post your state here, and people who know where to look on your state gov or county will let you know with a link. Most places pretty easy.

Read the bottom, the law. Then the top , how to get papers.
SC is one of the few still requiring clergy, Or judges and sworn court officers. Open ministry is another of the many who will mail order papers so he gets ordained a non-denominational minister ( signs as Reverend.). They operate in many states, and I know people who have used them. Not an unknown.
