Officiant

Lauren, on June 18, 2019 at 11:47 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
Hello all!!
I have been going crazy trying to find the perfect officiant for my wedding on September 21, 2019. My fiancé and I are doing a non-denominational wedding and we are writing our own vows. If anyone can recommend someone for me that would be great! Thanks 😁

I went to the Vendor tab on WW. And I found a bunch of them. I don’t know what state you live or where your getting married at, but there was a lot that popped up.

Hey Lauren, congratulations! Have you tried Googling officiants? My fiancé and I are also non-denominational Christians and are writing our vows. We are having a family friend officiate. Is that an option?

Many states have some sort of justice of the peace association and will list names of members. We found a lot of good leads on our states site before we hired one!

Thank you! We are also writing our own vows as well. Non-religious ceremony. I contacted a few on WW so we shall see what they say. I’m willing to go with anyone who will make our wedding a memorable and special day 😁

Yes. That’s another issue of mine. Do I go with a minister, a judge, justice of the peace? I have no idea where to begin lol

So we began our search on both the knot and wedding wire because we were getting different results for the same area. When I started to get frustrated there we ended up looking at the justice of the peace association in our state. What I found out when I was looking for someone is that both ministers and justices of the peace can be associated with a religion, but they can also be NOT associated with a religion.

My FH was set that he wanted someone who had NO religious affiliation whatsoever (for example, a rabbi or a reverend can also be a JOP, so he didn't want that), but in my searching I found that some people refer to themselves as a minister but it's because they were ordained from like the universal life church or another organization that would technically leave you a minister, but not what I thought of as a church minister (if that makes sense?).

In the end, we ended up going with an ordained minister (who basically took JOP classes online and was ordained that way and has absolutely no religious affiliation) who I found on the knot.

Sorry if this is rambling. Basically, you should narrow down what you're looking for ie religious or not, and go from there. I would suggest looking on both wedding websites too because like I said, I was getting a lot of people on both sites but the person we hired was only on the knot and not on here.

Thank you for explaining all that. I was confused myself originally. Still not 100% sure of who is what and what is what but I’ll get there lol.. We actually found someone yesterday on WW that we really liked and that has availability for our wedding date. Should be speaking with him later on. If all else fails I can try to find JOP. Thanks so much for your input!! 😀
