Officiant

Our wedding is November 7, 2020 and I’m trying to look into officiants already because they can book up real quick just like venues. So far we haven’t planned on pre marital counseling but we also haven’t discussed it yet either. If you feel it’s necessary than I would do it.

We're a year away and we have already got our officiant. But we also knew exactly which priest we wanted to ask so it wasn't a search as much as sending the one email and hoping he was free. If I were you I would go ahead and start looking now. As the previous person said they can book up.

As far as pre marital counseling we are doing session with our priest because the church requires it so it wasn't really a choice for us, but I think it's probably good to do

Thanks for the advice!! I think I’m going to starch my research since they do book fast!!! And I think I’m leaning towards those pre-marital sessions, we’ve been together for so long (almost a decade) that’s it will be nice to have those sessions to just focus on our relationship a little more in depth!!!

We started looking a year out, but it took us 6 months to find one we loved! We didn't do counseling though.

I'd say start now, you really want to have a good relationship with your officiant and make sure that you are 100% happy with them. I reached out to many before I even knew what I was looking for because I learned a little bit about the process through each one of them. Finally after getting frustrated at the mixture of high prices and being unavailable I found my amazing officiant Christi Wyckoff from Put A Ring On It!!! Our initial communication which was through email was amazing she educated me in the different types of ceremonies and other things that I was still unclear about. I also recommend using Thumbtack I used it for my officiant and HMUA and found amazing people at even better prices.

We booked our officiant this past July for our October 2020 wedding. I would def look for someone now. You may not like the first one you meet, and they book up fast! First guy I spoke to was away our weekend, but suggested we book someone ASAP as he already had 17 weddings next October. We are not doing counseling, we are not religious and I don’t see the point personally.

I think you can definitely start looking now, my opinion is that it's never too early haha! We have not done premarital counseling but it seems like a good idea as you were saying to focus on your relationship after being together for so long!

Its never too early to start booking vendors! The sooner the better that way you aren't cramping yourself close to your big day. Enjoy the planning!

Thumbtack is a site/app where you can search for vendors of any kind almost anywhere. It asks you a few questions to gather information to match you to professionals and then it connects you to them. You can find so many amazing people on it!
