I don't know what's customary, but my BFF and her husband had a non-religious officiant, and she began with the story of their meet-cute (it's adorable, they met at an airport - and only because of weather-delayed flights) and then talked a little about their story, bringing to the place where we were and the actual vows, etc. - it was beautiful. (We were married by an Episcopal priest, so my wedding's no help lol)

Our wedding ceremony was not religious whatsoever and our officiant was amazing! He did a little bit of how we met, he read an except of a poem of our choosing, he read a little paragraph of something we each wrote about the other person, and he did a lovely sand ceremony. It was short, sweet, and to the point!

Thank you for asking this, we are in the *exact* same boat lol. My uncle is officiating our non-religious wedding as well!

We hired a friend, lol, BIG MISTAKE but I digress......I wrote the whole thing as he did not seem to think it was that important. I would suggest writing it together and rehearse rehearse and rehearse some more! Best wishes!

Aw I'm sorry! My uncle and I have a very unique relationship (we are constantly making fun of one another and pretty much only communicate in sarcasm), BUT I know he is taking this very seriously so I am not worried about that. But he did ask what we'd like him to say and I was clueless so these responses help. It will be short and sweet.

Well the ceremony went well and I made sure I mailed the license (not him as he would have forgotten, lol) and he was a very good officiant at the ceremony, but beforehand was.....anxiety inducing! But hey it is is the past! Best wishes!!!!
