Officiant Script

Catrina, on July 19, 2020 at 9:07 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 5

My grandfather is officiating our wedding and wants us to give him some sort of script/outline since he has never done this before. Does anyone have a script or outline they have used for a parent or grandparent officiating their wedding? We do want some christian aspects but not a full on traditional wedding script.

Have you done a Google search for sample ceremonies? There are a ton that you can mix and match. Make sure to find out if your state requires any specific verbage for legal purposes.

Offbeatbride.com has script ideas as well.

My officiant company, Texas Wedding Ministers, had a great selection of wedding scripts in English, Spanish, and ritual scripts. Here is the link to the English ones that would be great starting points for you to customize.

I put together my ceremony script, and actually found a lot of the pieces on Pinterest. I'd search for a specific section (Intro/Welcome, Declaration Of Intent, etc), and if I found one I liked any part of, I'd use that as a starting point and maybe change some of the wording to make it my own. My script is definitely a combination of multiple different ones I found.

Not going to lie, I spent 6 hours writing my script for the officiant who’s a long time family friend. I literally googled and watched YouTube... pieced the script together. I was super picky about making it mine, maybe that’s what took so long. I did have a few things for her to customize/write too... that way it’s a little bit of a surprise but includes everything I want too. I’m super excited, but it took me a lot longer to write than I expected.
