Officiant Honorarium

Chuck, on August 30, 2014 at 2:26 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

Hi.

My wedding is in a few weeks and my bride and I are having a disagreement about how much money to give our Pastor.

Here is the thing; I am the Youth Pastor of our Church. (Since our Church is not financially able to pay two pastors, I also work a full-time, low pay job) I work very closely with our Pastor, and I feel like "tipping" him is sort of ridiculous. In all of our budgeting and planning, we did not include an Honorarium. By adding this cost now, we're tapping into our savings.

My Wife-to-be now feels like we need to gather an Honorarium. It is tradition and he will take a lot of his time to help us with this. Also, he is sort of my boss and we don't want to offend him.

So, internet people, what are your opinions?

Given that you have fairly close bonds with him would a personalized gift be a possibility? It could still be a token of your appreciation for contributing his time to you .... Given that you are his youth pastor I can't imagine he would be offended by you not giving him an honorarium of a huge proportion
