Officiant Decision

We're having my fiance's dad marry us! We decided to have him do it because we know he's already a licensed officiant and has already done a few weddings. This way, we know he will do a good job, and it's also someone close to us. I would maybe ask around and see if any of your friends/relatives are already licensed officiants and see if they would be willing to do it. Otherwise, there's always the option to hire someone!

We are having a friend officiant for us. We went with him because he knows both of us really well and he’s been around since we first started dating. We thought it would be a great idea to have someone bless our union that we know personally and also know us.

We are having my FH's mentor and friend marry us, we wanted someone who knew us somewhat, not some random stranger.

My husband knew he wanted his friend to officiate since before we got together. His friend is very funny, loves to talk, and has known him since childhood. He is also someone my husband knew he could trust to stick to a script (within reason) and would respect his boundaries if he said a topic was off limits. When we got engaged, he asked if this friend officiating was okay with me and I agreed.


Our officiant had also officiated someone else's wedding just a few years before ours so he knew the legal requirements in our state and was very prepared. It worked out wonderfully and he did a fantastic job!

We are having a destination wedding and contemplated having a friend get ordained to marry us. Ultimately though, we decided to hire a professional. I’ve just seen too many awkward ceremonies where friends have officiated and don’t really know what they are doing (or got stage fright once they were standing in front of lots of people). We wanted to ensure things went smoothly and the officiant could direct our rehearsal.
We searched for officiants online, read tons of reviews and watched videos of weddings they had officiated. I was pretty sure I had decided on an officiant, but decided to ask our photographer if he had any suggestions and he actually suggested the one I’d already chosen! That sealed the deal for us. Definitely don’t hesitate to ask your other vendors for suggestions. They do tons of weddings and can tell you who is talented, consistent and reliable to work with.

We would have loved a friend to marry us, but none of our friends are known for public speaking so we didn't have to put that pressure on them

Our church has 3 priests we could have selected. The one we both really wanted has always given great homilies, is kind, has a great sense of humor, and just seemed like the right pick.

We looked at local officiants, but were not overly impressed. We ended up asking my FH's cousin, because we wanted something a little more personal.

Mine is personal now had 2 the first 1 we knew the pastor for many year and then the church closed down with the pandemic in all. Then the 2 1 was my cusion but our schedules were not meeting up and then my FH other job took hom out of state alot. So now presently we are asking a very close friend of ours and is ordained so hopefully that this one sticks.
