Off the shoulder dress

Lindsey, on April 5, 2021 at 7:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Off the shoulder dress 1I got my dress back in December and am just now able to try it on due to it being at my parents house and Covid. The dress fits well probably little alterations but I really can’t lift my arms up at all or bend in it very well. I’m worried about dancing and if the arms will be able to altered so I can lift them up as my fiancé is 6’ 3” and I’m 5’. I’m also wondering if there is a way to not have the dress show as much of the girls as it wasn’t that low when I tried the sample dress on

Would you consider adding a thin strap over your shoulder to hold your dress up a bit where it might feel more comfortable to move?

It looks to me like it’s sittings little low overall. If it were a. It higher on you the at would address the issue with ‘the girls’ and may also result in more arm movement if it falls across your shoulders rather than the tops of your arms.

In any case, discuss with your seamstress and they should be able to suggest ways to address your concerns.

    It’s a beautiful dress.

Hi Lindsey! I'd bring all these questions with you to your alterations appointment!! I think once the gown is more fit to you it won't ride quite as low.

As for raising your arms - I think it depends on if your dress is just stiff and needs to be steamed, or if that's really the set structural shape. A lot of wedding dresses aren't made with dancing mobility in mind, so I definitely feel your frustration! 😄

Thank you, I believe that is where the arms are supposed to lay. I’ve attached a photo of the sample I tried on. I didn’t notice this one as “stiff” or low. The difference is this one is clipped in the back bc it was too big Off the shoulder dress 2

The dress was very very stiff! I had no idea that steaming it would work that out. Wedding is in October so I’ll definitely have her steamed and altered by then

I agree that it does look like the dress is sitting lower on your body than when you tried it on, which could contribute to the arms and cleavage issue. When you get alterations done, the seamstress should pin the dress where it should be and you can go from there!
