October vs November Wedding

Danielle, on January 4, 2019 at 6:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
My fiance and I have to pick between October 24th, 2020 or November 7th, 2020 for our wedding date. Our venue is located in Harford County, MD. I keep hearing things about "off season" rates and that it would be much cheaper if we get married in November. We both want a fall wedding so either date is fine there, my only concern is the weather. I'm okay if it's a little chilly but I'm worried it will be down right cold. Is it really worth the "off season" rates? Thank you in advance for your input!

If it's an indoor venue then I don't think you have too much to worry about but if its outdoor and you know it gets colder where you are then I'd have it earlier so you don't have to worry about your guests getting cold.

We had the same dilemna. We pick October(and had to actually change to September). Daylight savings is in November and while it gets dark early the end of October you save yourself the extra hour of light for pictures and a longer evening.

Trying to plan around the weather can be tough. October can still have summer temps & November can have some winter temps. In general, the first 1st week of November is still very much fall. And off-season pricing can save you thousands.

I would try to get the first week of November.

I personally would go for the first week of November, especially if it saves you a significant amount of money. However, if any part of your venue is outdoors I might consider the October date.

The dates are only two weeks apart, so I wouldn't use weather as your determining factor. I don't know about the weather in MD, but in the fall here it can be 80 degrees one day and 30 the next. There's really no predicting it. I would go with the October date because of the time change in November.

We had the same dilemma. We wanted the fall colors. (We are in Michigan) Looking back thru the past few years of color change and weather, we decided on the first weekend of November because that is when we noticed it all was happening. Weather is unpredictable so we are hoping for the best and planning for the worse. The off season rates start basically November 1st, so it really is up to you. It was worth it to us. Got both of best worlds. Hopefully the weather works out.

Yes! My aunt got married in Nov and the time change blows for pictures. Everything feels so rushed! I agree with Caytlyn, the time change is a bigger deal in this situation. Not sure if the 7th is before or after daylight savings though

It looks like daylight savings time ends on November 1, 2020. Womp.

I mean in our area (PA) November is not even really considered off season. If that is your concern you will have to make sure the venue actually considers it the off season. As someone else said they are only two weeks apart. I would say late November and definitely all winter is off season.

Hey Danielle!! Which date did you decide to go with? Growing up in Maryland, I know that Indian summers were a big issue, but then there was also snow the last weekend of October in my senior year of high school. So you really have no clue what the weather's going to be.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of your input. We had decided to go with the date of October 24th, 2020 but the venue reached out to us a few weeks ago and informed us that they had a cancellation on October 17th, 2020 so we we moved it to that date. It made us feel a little bit better about the weather.
