October ceremony start time

Meagan, on May 17, 2017 at 8:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I'm having an outdoor wedding in October and want to make sure I have enough time to take pictures before the sun sets. The sun sets around 6:45pm, so I was thinking about a 5pm ceremony since it'll be less than 30 minutes and the ceremony/reception are in the same place. Thoughts?

That's when I scheduled mine! I'm interested to hear other comments. My photographer said that would be a good time for sunset pictures

If you are doing first looks I say you could push it back just a little. But if you are going the traditional route and seeing each other down the isle I would say that is a good time because it allows enough time for the ceremony and pictures and leaves just a slight bit of time in case you are running late.

My wedding was last October (twin dates)! The ceremony was on a deck overlooking a river and started at 5:30pm. Reception at same place. The ceremony was no more than 15 minutes and then everyone moved into cocktail hour. We had plenty of light to get family photos with B & G but we also did a First Look--absolutely no regrets--some of my favorite pics of me and H came from it.

ETA--I had to check invitation to remember the correct time.

I'm thinking a 4pm start time. May be early but I want time for the reception!

We were going to have our ceremony at 5:00 but the DOC at the venue said to do it at 5:15. She said it would make a world of difference for sunset pictures. I don't see 15 minutes being huge but whatever I'm trusting her.

ETA: not doing a first look

My October ceremony is at 3. I sacrificed my want for sunset pictures to have an earlier dinner for my older crowd. It is what it is. *shrug*

Our venue and photographer suggested a 4:30 start time for October in MA.

My advice is to ask your photographer - they'll have hopefully done this many times and will know exactly the amount of time they need for what you want!

I actually asked my photographer because it was important to FH we get sunset photos. He told me to start at 430, this leaves room for if you run late, and then you can take photos with family during cocktail hour, then sneak off for sunset photos.

We have the same date. I am having my ceremony at 5pm. We will participate in the cocktail hour and while guests are going in to be seated we will sneak off for those few sunset pics. We are doing a first look as well.

We are doing a 3:30 start time for the ceremony.. that gives us plenty of time after the ceremony for pictures/cocktail hour.
