October brides!

How are y’all feeling at the moment??

We have set our date for Sunday, October 11, 2020. The venue we want to book IS available for this date, thankfully, but I’m very skeptical to book considering the virus and the effect it’s already had on our economy and just our lives in general, and it’s scary to think it could quickly get MUCH worse over the next few months. October is still a ways away, but how are y’all feeling about everything? The venues want to book is $2000 for the entire day with a $200 non-refundable deposit fee to secure the date, so we may just go ahead and book it, and then just see how everything plays out over the next few months! Congratulations to y’all and I hope and pray everything works out for everyone in the end!

Have them include in the contract that in case of natural disasters that u get ur deposit refunded if forced to cancel. $200 isnt bad for deposit, ours was 1000 and im not sure if we will get refunded.

I would hold off on putting down any nonrefundable deposits, unless your vendor is willing to put, IN WRITING, that you get your money back if the pandemic makes your wedding a public health hazard or an illegal gathering.

You will find that a lot of brides find it difficult to go dress shopping, meet vendors, etc because everything is shut down now. A lot of spring brides are postponing to fall, which means you'll be in stiff competition for vendors. A lot of vendors may be bankrupt by your date. A business that has successfully declared bankruptcy would be shielded from debtors.
My wedding is 10/2 and the ever changing situation is creating more anxiety than it typically would. If I could do it all over again, I would have planned for a low cost (low risk) microwedding.
At the very least, I'd wait till mid May to see how we fare. A pandemic can have multiple waves, especially if everyone does not take preventative measures.
    Congrats and good luck!

$200 isn’t bad for a deposit. Mine was $1000 to save the date. As previous poster said I would ask for a clause to be added just in case.

$200 is a very reasonable deposit, it's worth considering. I'm sorry you're stuck making a tough choice in a difficult time with so little concrete info. I want to help put you in touch with some other members who are dealing with the same thing, maybe you can lean on each other and share info with other October couples - Wedding October 2020

Thank y’all very much for your responses. $200 is definitely a steal as far as deposits go and a total of $2000 is very reasonable as well! We’ve made contact with the venue and I think we’re going to move forward with securing our wedding date. It’s just so hard to be excited and motivated given the circumstances. I know there are sooo many couples that have it far worse than we do and it makes me so anxious and sad for them, but I sincerely hope things work out for the better for them in the end!
