Oct Wedding - Book Hair and Makeup now or wait?

Trinity, on April 16, 2020 at 11:10 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14

Hello all your cool brides and grooms,

I am having a dilemma like most engaged couples due to Covid-19. I am getting married on 10/10, and I have booked every vendor except for Hair and Makeup. My original plan was to have a trial with a salon before booking them. However, due to the pandemic, I have to postpone on that plan. My questions are:

1) Do you normally book HAM first before you even do your trial because each trial is at least $100 or do you just hire them and do your trial later?

2) Should I go ahead and book them now or wait?

Thank you!

Usually The Trial Would Come In A Hair And makeup Package, So You Would Hire Them Beforehand, And Any Extra Trials You Want You Would Have To An Extra Fee For, But It's Different Depending On The Salon You Choose.

Im Getting Married 10/17 And Have Already Booked H&M, So I Suggest Booking Them And Continue To Plan As Normal. Trials Don't Usually Start No Earlier Then 4 Months Prior.

My wedding is 10/17/2020 and I started about 3 weeks ago and boy is it hard, I probably sent out like 20 emails and maybe 4 came back that they are available for my date. I honestly didn’t think it would be this difficult but most of the ones that were already book said they were booked for that last 1-2 years.
I would say if you find one you really like book them now. The contracts that have been sent to me usually say a $75 or $100 deposit (which usually covers the trial)
    Best of luck ❤️

The popular HMUA book up around a year or more in advance in my area. If you know what style you want, look for someone who has example photos of that style. Check out their website and social media. Don’t be afraid to ask for photos of a specific style if your vision is a bit different than traditional bride HMU in your area. But, yea, go ahead and book now. Once you’re able to, go ahead and do the trial.

I did my trial first. Why would I book someone, then do a trial and risk hating their work? Luckily my first trial went great and I ended up booking her.

I think the reason why you book them first and do trials later is that you're supposed to do your trial close to the wedding. Esp hair because if you do a trial a year out then your hair can change by the time of your wedding.

I also hate paying someone that I might not like though, so I found a HMUP team that lets you reserve the spot without a deposit, and you pay at your trial if you like them and decide to book them. I plan to wait until 2-3 months before my wedding and do my trial then because I won't change my hair after that.

We originally had a May wedding and was planning to book an artist in Feb for hair. She originally had the time slot, but I eventually decided not to do the hair thing at all, thinking I could do my own hair. Now that I moved the wedding to October, I tried to hire her, but now she’s booked. Now I’m trying to find someone else. Given that fact, it’s busy wedding season and plenty of people had to move their weddings, so I would book now.

    Hi Trinity,

I agree with the PP. I recommend that you reach out to artists ASAP. 1) Find a team now, and 2) Book them as soon as you can if they're within budget, etc.

Also, here's some general information on Wedding Hair & Makeup from WeddingWire.

I hope you find a HMU team soon! Smiley heart

My wedding date is 10/3/2020. I hired mine a while back based upon reviews and the many sample pictures they had of their work. I am planning on doing a trial in July or August. I would look at their portfolios and decide which one's work you like best. Also message them with any questions you have. I messaged like 10 different places/people before booking a salon for hair and an independent makeup artist.

You need to book ASAP. My wedding is (hopefully...) 10/31/20. I booked my HAM last July and she told me she had someone else inquiring about the same date. 10/10 is a very popular date as well. My HAM person charges a deposit but it goes toward the trial which I’ll have probably in July. Good luck!

    Hi,

All the ones I looked at have a separate fee.

So, I find the answer changes on this depending on the person. Some swear you need a trial prior to booking others say you don’t. I knew I wanted a very natural look for my wedding and the H.A.M people I really loved and looked into specialized in that, I saw numerous photos and portfolios of their work and loved everything so I hired them. They did not offer trials prior to booking because they are in such high demand. What I would suggest is if you are hiring prior to trail make sure you have seen plenty of photos (don’t be afraid to ask them to send you more if you’re still not convinced). Make sure you are in love with all of their photos and they suit the look you want to go for. This way you know you both are the same style and will be a good fit. It would also help for you to take screen shots of the looks you like on their portfolio for your eventual trial this way they will know exactly what you want. Hope this helps!
