Agreed. almost all djs will play whatever type of music you specify. were from the long island area also. we went with "in the mix" as our dj. we absolutely loved the vibe when we met with them. plus they did my sisters wedding a few years ago were great. pricing isn't bad and you can pick and choose exactly what services you want (of course theres unnecessary extras you can add on!)

Try URE events. I booked them and they are great. Very accommodating so far.

    Hi Nicole,

Since you're in NY, most DJs will be experienced in Hip-Hop, R&B and House.

When it comes to Soca, this is when you want to start getting picky with your DJ. Soca is not easy to mix if you're not familiar with the flow of it, and the DJ must have prior experience with Soca otherwise it is very easy to kill the energy on the dance-floor if not blended correctly. As you know it's one of those genres where there is a certain rhythm that must be maintained, otherwise the guests will notice right away that this person is a novice.

Most DJ companies have online mixes or videos of events they've worked, please ask to see or hear the Soca mix or wedding video they have played at before.

This page has some great soca and oldies hits, in the form of music videos, from a wedding we did last year to help you in your song selections:

    Have a wonderful day!
