ny Marriage License

MaryElena, on May 17, 2021 at 9:23 PM Posted in New York Planning 1 11
Hi everyone!

Our wedding ceremony will be officiated in New York. Due to the global pandemic the nyc.gov website has been advising couples to apply for their license online. Has anyone recently completed their application online specifically in the NYS area? Any advice you could offer would be extremely helpful!
Thank you!

Hi MaryElena! You should definitely apply as early as you can online, they’ve been super busy!!

Here are a few discussions from other couples who’ve gone through the process:

Hi Lynnie! Thank you for reaching out. Our wedding is on July 17. Is now an optimal time to begin the process. The city clerk office will be releasing new appointments tomorrow. How would I schedule this appointment?

Yes! I would recommend beginning the process right away!!

You do it all online through the Project Cupid portal from the Office of the City Clerk:

I would STRONGLY suggest following the Office the City Clerk on Twitter. That will get you a heads up on when they release new appointments. My husband and I got our ML appt within 5 days by following them and tweeting them.

Yes, I created a Twitter account just to troll the City Clerk. Appointments for mid-June are up right now, 5/27 at 9am. They post a message about opening appointments on Thursday mornings.

Others on other boards have messaged your appointment time must be within 60 days of your ceremony. However, you can start and pay for your application ahead of time.

    Good luck!

Thank you, Michelle! We payed the license fee and new appointments just became available. Once we schedule our appointment, will we receive a confirmation email? When I clicked “schedule” it said processing booking but I didn’t get a message on the screen or an email and I’m nervous I did something wrong. 😟

That happened to me, too. I refreshed the page, and reclicked my preferred date and time, and a blue? button popped up that said Schedule. I did receive a confirmation screen and email.

This has been helpful. Fellow New Yorker, from the city. I plan to have my wedding sometime next fall, should I apply for the license during the summer?

The license is only valid for 60 days. Who knows what the rules will be next fall but definitely don't apply this summer because it will expire.

Our appointment with the City Clerks office is approaching quickly. Do I just log back into my account and press the “start video chat” button on the confirmation page that day? I downloaded Microsoft Teams and read online about receiving a Microsoft Teams link in the confirmation email but the only link I have in my email is the nyc.gov/Cupid one. I’m not tech savvy. Any help would be much appreciated! 😊
