NWR Zoloft

Weddingbliss, on June 4, 2014 at 6:04 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13

So my doctor in talking to my psychologist decided to put me on zoloft for my GI issues (it's said to relax the nerves in the digestive system and help with its) well I've never taken it before and its a 50mg dosage. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has experienced weight gain or weight loss from it? or a decrease in your sex drive? I already have a super low sex drive and do not want to get it any lower! lol. Also if anyone else has taken it for gi problems did you have any sucess?

My old job gave me an ulcer from the stress and my Dr. put me on another brand of anti-depressant (low dose). It did actually help the ulcer heal. I was on it for about 6 months until I quit the job. It did not impact my weight, sex drive, sleep, attention, or anything else.

@Vintage Great thanks! Yeah I have had gi issues for a long time and nothing seems to work, so my doctor put me on zoloft to see if it works.

I was on Zoloft for IBS but I was still having issues so my GI doctor prescribed Hyoscyamine (so you have the name of something else in case Zoloft doesn't help).

I was on it for anxiety for a year and a half in college and it never affected my weight or sex drive. It does make you really sleepy the first day you take it so try to start on the weekend.

I have been prescribed 2 similar meds (Lexapro and Pristiq). They were/are for my anxiety but I get IBS even worse with anxiety. I went through YEARS of GI testing and was diagnosed. Both meds SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my symptoms. I've never had any side effects from either. Both were 50mg as well.

Yes, it just takes about two days, the first was the worst, after that I felt great! Well I felt normal, but since it was for my anxiety, I felt great! Lol

@Weddingbliss well I hope it works for you! It was the only thing that made me able to leave the house again to go to class. Keep in mind it takes 3 weeks to fully absorb into your body and for you to notice a real difference, but I was able to start going to my friends' houses after about one week so you'll see small changes after a week. Good luck!

None of the published side effects of Zoloft include decreased libido. Every drug can react differently with each person, but if you're dealing with chronic GI issues, give it a chance. It could change your life. Push through any initial side effects like drowsiness (actually, for some people, the side effects are insomnia and nervousness). Eventually, your body will adjust to the drug, but give it a fair chance. GI issues are horrible, painful, and inconvenient (to say the least). I hope this works for you, but if it doesn't, don't give up.

@ashley Oh gosh, it would suck to lose my sex drive because it's already low.

@flowers Gi issue suck and right now my symptoms are so bad I have to try this. I am going to see how it works! I would love to find some relief it gets so bad sometimes I don't want to leave the house.

With wedding planning/dreading my ibs issues having been acting up as well - zoloft should help with the anxiety but in case of emergency for wedding I'd ask for the prescription strength immodium. I was on it last year due to moving cities and plan on requesting it again for closer to the wedding.
