NWR: Silent Disco! FTW!!

Malei, on August 17, 2017 at 6:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

So I attended a wedding workshop last night and one of the wedding planners mentioned "silent disco" when someone brought up estate weddings. I literally just learned that even existed! For those that don't know, Silent Disco is when they hand out wireless headphones and you tune in to the same channel that the DJ is on (or you can tune to another channel that has a different genre of music playing) and this avoids exceeding noise regulations and allows other guests to not have to speak over the music. Not even going to lie that I've been on YouTube all day watching footage of people rocking out in silence (DJ's rock out the hardest) and it's the most peculiar thing! Anyone else heard of this?!

I love seeing on videos where the crowd just sings out in unison at the crescendo of whatever song is playing!! Haha!

Imagine you just hear someone scream out to their partner (cause they forget they're wearing headphones), "This song makes me SO horny!!!"

I don't understand the appeal of silent discos when the point is to bring people together.

    No lie.

Yeah I can't even get over the fact that this is a thing... Moreso that it was suggested for a wedding reception! That's insane! I feel like this submerses you in your own world... why would a planner suggest this?!

    I looove silent discos!

I went to a music festival where there was a silent disco after a certain hour because of a noise ordinance for that area.

I have also been to a silent disco club in the middle of the city. Due to noise complaints they became a silent disco with 3 floors to choose from. And you don't even have to be on that floor to enjoy the music. It also helps with conversation amongst friends and potential friendships. You don't have to shout or use weird hand gestures in the hopes that your party understands.

South Korea had a silent street disco craze a year or so ago where people could jam out without all the noise affecting the neighborhood.

I can see it's usefulness at weddings in places that don't take too kindly to loud and rowdy parties. Eta: spelling

Never heard of it. But one thing that always annoys me at receptions is that the music always seems so loud. I can't dance due to bad knees and always end up sitting with a headache due to the music.
