NWR: Should I get my nails "done" for a job interview?

GrayCatVintage, on September 13, 2014 at 12:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I went to a job fair and I have been called back for a second interview. I really want this job because it is in the most ideal location I could ever hope for and I think I could do well at the position. I used to paint my nails all the time but now I never do. Is this something that people look at? I know they look at your hands because they can tell if you are married or not by looking and not having to ask (since they can't ask) but what about your nails?

I always have mine done because my nails are in every wedding photo that I'm in....I think it's a good idea! Good luck!

I'd have them well shaped with a neutral or clear coat. If this means you need a manicure, then go for it. You want to look put together so small details like having them filed, the same length and shaped can lend to that image. They may not even realize the detail, but it goes with it.

Yes, especially if you're applying for a job where your hands are very much on view to clients.

As long as they're neat and well kept I don't think it matters.

Depending on the job, having a flashy nail job could make or break it. If you're looking for a professional position, neat and neutral would be fine. No designs, nothing too dark/light in contrast with your skin tone. If the polish is unique enough that someone comments on it (good or bad) that's probably not what you want for your interview.

I have a background in HR and highly recommend getting your nails done. However, do not do any color. I recommend clear or french tip with no design. Not knowing the environment of the office, it's better to go with either clear or french tip.

Also, even though you didn't ask, the same thing goes with your make-up.

Agreeing with the other ladies. I always get a fresh manicure before an interview. Makes me feel like I have my ish together lol.

I will see if I can get into the salon on Monday. I stopped painting my nails because I started nervously picking at the polish when I was at my old job (it was a stress thing). So, I have not painted them in probably a year. My nails are a tasteful length I just think they need some oomph. I will also do a tasteful light colored eyeshadow instead of my usual "wild" makeup (most of you saw my green eye shadow picture last week haha).

I should have added yes, short, neat and neutral.
