My husband is looking to advance his career and his field is pretty specialty (he installs all technology on police cars). He knows the industry and products and has managed/run the shop that he works at... bad thing is the company he currently works for has no benefits. No 401K, no insurance, etc. He like his boss and the people he works with, but pay is crappy and again no benefits. One of the suppliers who develops the technology (lights and sirens) is looking to start their own dept building the cars and wants to hire a person to run the dept and also travel the country to train their distribution partners on new product. It's a pretty amazing opportunity...

My problem is that I have a house here and all my family is here, my roots, my support system, friends, people I love and my career. Cont...

I think you should consider all options and see if there are compromises that one or both of you can make that will make one option stand out as obviously the better for both of you (ie. you'll agree to move there when you find a job that pays better too). I realize this doesn't always work with timing, but I'm sure you could look at other options and see what you could work out together. As an example, DH and I are both from MA originally, lived in PA for college and his grad school, I worked there for 2 years, and DH wanted to move back to MA, so we decided that I would apply to law schools in both states, and we'd see what happened. I got into schools in both places but chose MA, and he started looking for a job in MA. We moved last week and he starts work in 5 days and I start school in the fall. One of the deciding factors for us was that long term we would rather be in MA, and it was easier to relocate one career than 2, and do it before we bought a house and had kids. etc. Get creative with your options and you might find something that makes you both happy!
