NWR My neighbors are always fighting, what should I do?

sarao, on June 21, 2010 at 1:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

So, we live in a house but right next to us is an apartment building, which is fine, except for these new neighbors. They moved in about 4 months ago and they fight constantly. The man curses so much and it is at all times, during the day and at night. I can hear them with doors and windows shut. I keep calling the sheriff on them but what else can I do? I am so afraid that when all of our family comes for the wedding that they will be fighting and it will wake up my guests or something. I really don't know what else to do. I should not have to hear that.

Well one thing you could do is every time they get too loud, knock on their door and ask if everything is ok, and then say you heard something and you just wanted to make sure they're ok. That way they'll know to argue a little quieter and you won't come off like a b-tch. (Just a nosey neighbor) Lol.

I had neighbors like this a number of years ago at my old house. About all that you can do now is just continue to call the authorities to have it documented. If it is loud enough, they could be cited for noise ordnance violations.

Eventually they left, but not on their own. I read an article about them and how they kidnapped someone who wasn't paying for their drugs, and they stripped them down naked, beat them, and left them tied up to die on the side of the road. Needless to say, three of the four previous occupants are now in jail.

Hopefully it wouldn't come to something like that. But if they are civil normally, you could go talk to them and tell them that they are disturbing your sleep and ask them to keep the noise down after insert time here. We've had to do this with my neighbor who plays his drums and keeps the kids awake.

But this is a bit of a different circumstance, so you might be best off just documenting with the authorities and letting them handle it!

Well we aren't really their neighbor. I would have to walk around the corner, enter their courtyard, find their apartment from the front (I only see their window from the back) and then do that. But, I can tell you right now that wouldn't end well for me. The man is not a nice man. He has hit this woman and he is often yelling at her "F*&$ the police, call them I don't care" Not a good situation. Plus what if he retaliates. I am afraid of him.

I would do what Brian says and call the apartments management. Our upstairs neighbors constantly fight and a few times they threw things off the balcony that landed on our outdoor space. We called the cops and the management company.

Keep calling the cops to get it documented like Matt P. said. I would contact the apartment as well and if they don't do anything then contact the management companies corporate office and complain.

I think I will call the property managers, they don't live on site which may be why these people have been allowed to get away with so much. I hate that I have to deal with this right now, my wedding is like three weeks out! Ugh I hate this.

Definitely call the property management every time it gets too loud. Your calls will annoy them enough that they MAY actually do something about it to get you off their back. I would stay away from any direct confrontation with the neighbors though based on your instincts and what you've overheard. Have the cops on speed dial during your wedding and designate someone to call them if the neighbor's start to intrude on your bliss Smiley smile

I'd let the property managers know that you WILL call the cops every time the neighbors get loud, especially when you have guests for your wedding.

Document everything -- especially when you know the arguments have gotten physical. Send copies to the police and the property managers.

I'm with Brian on this one. Definitely dont go over there and try to be the nice neighbor. You don't need to set yourself up for any kind of retailiation.
