NWR: Lupus.... am I alone here?

Finally mrs.jkr, on September 9, 2014 at 5:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Does anyone have lupus on here? I'm just curious on how you guys manage it while planning a wedding.... how are all of you able to get through your day?

I personally feel like it's especially exhausting that I'm planning a wedding, going to school, working, and have lupus. If none of you have heard of it and may have friends with lupus and would like to understand, the spoon theory is excellent: http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/wpress/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/

I just feel like I don't have enough spoons to get through the day lately.... sorry for the rant, I'm just completely exhausted, and no matter how understanding and helpful FH is, I just can't seem to do anything with the small amount of energy I have.

I don't have lupus, but I do have a chronic illness that makes this whole process so much more difficult- I really do feel your pain. I'm a full time nurse, I'm taking 8 college credits this semester, planning 2 weddings, managing a household, and raising a 10 year old. Some days down right suck when you add "being sick" on top of it.

As far as managing it-- I try my very best to stay ahead of an exacerbation. If I feel myself going down the slippery slope, I try to get it back under control before it's full blown. It's really important to be in tune with your body and know when "enough is enough". I know life doesn't always wait around for us to get to feeling better, but try to prioritize and go from there. Delegate what you can and try to get lots of rest. Find something that re-energizes your spirit and squeeze that in any time you can.

I hope that the rest of your planning goes well and that this lupus doesn't hold you back from the wedding of your dreams!!

Lupus is such a varied thing. My friend has it. Most days, she can't function. It's really hard to see her suffering and not be able to do much to help.

I have a friend who has it, but hers has gotten REALLY has in the last couple of years and she is now on disability due to some strokes she has had.

I feel bad, because 4 years ago she had said plans she wanted to do as a bachelorette party if I ever got married and now she isn't in a position to do anything except maybe show up. Smiley sad

If it makes you feel any better planning a wedding, going to school, and working would exhaust me healthy or not. Smiley smile

Thanks guys, I'm just so discouraged today because I am so tired, I am thankful that I seem to have a lighter case of lupus, but some days (or even weeks) I am so arthritic and tired that the most I can do is sit up to eat.

I'm just looking forward to when I graduate because I am looking at being a stay at home wife, and later mother, (I'm getting a degree in teaching so that I can support myself and future children in the case anything ever happens to FH in the future)... at least then I will be able to delgate what I have to do and not extend myself 3 ways and can just focus on making a good homelife.

Work and school is probably enough most days. Can you hire a planner to help you?
