Just got home after getting my hair done. I had colour, (highlights and lowlights), cut, style, and brows waxed. My appointment was at 10:30am, I finally left the salon at 3:30pm., that's 5 hrs, yes, 5 hours!!! I woke up late this morning, so I didn't get to pack a lunch or a snack. Needless to say,...

Needless to say, I'm starving and thirsty! I dread having to go get my hair done! (First-world problem) Rant over! LOL.

Can anyone relate?

If I get it dyed, I have to have it bleached first so I'm there for hours. Not to mention any extras (cut or style). Good times.

Completely normal for me :-( my hair is very stubborn and won't take the dye very well. My first time dying my hair took 7hrs!!! I know it takes a lot less time with the at home kits but, I've already ruined my hair with those. I rather suck it up.

Relieved to know that I'm not the only woman out there who goes through this for the sake of vanity...lol

My hair is to my mid-back and it's extremely thick. As a previous PP stated, I think my stylist may also be a little OCD, as she is meticulous with her foils.

I'm always pleased with the results, but just wish it didn't take so long.

Mine is usually 4 or so. Shorter if I am doing a full color instead of highlights.

I have a shitload of hair and it just keeps growing. Mine is about 5 hours. Sometimes longer. Shorter if I tell her not to dry it so I can get the hell out of there. She schedules me last so that she doesn't have to worry about another client after me. I used to do extensions too and let's talk about time in the salon.... Ugh so glad it finally grew back and I don't have to do that anymore.

I'm a hair stylist.. highlights, color, cut and style is about a 3.5 hour service for me on average. Very long or thick hair adds extra time.

Anything that involves lightener can be a crapshoot tbh - some people lift CRAZY fast (.. like myself. 10 vol lightener in foils and my hair will be snow white in 20 minutes), other people process at a snails pace even with much stronger developers, foils, heat, etc., plus the whole wildcard of what existing color is on the hair..you never know. If you're using additives like olaplex, then it adds even more time. Not to mention some people lift to perfect, beautiful shades of blonde and dont need toner, others do. All stuff that adds time and can be a bit unpredictable sometimes.

With standard haircolor or toner, the processing time is usually pretty cut and dry.

2-3 hours is normal for me... and I have very thin, shoulder length hair. If I had more hair, I'd hate to know how long I'd be in the chair. I have stubborn color and like high maintenance colors that require several steps so.... yeah. I'm in the chair A LOT.

    My salon serves beer though.

I've spent 8 or 9 hours in a salon before. It just depends on what I am getting done and how busy my stylist is. I've been going to hair salon since I was about 5 y/o, so I honestly don't think about the time much anymore. In my mind, it is a full day, I try to get the earliest appointment and consider it just a part of the process.

Oh boy. I have my first salon appointment EVER this Saturday and hope to God I am not there for 5 hours or anywhere close to that! I am having a cut and color (not sure what highlights and lowlights are) though so fingers crossed.

When I had my first balayage, it took 4 hours for color, wash, cut, and style. Now, I go every 6 months and am usually there for 2 hours.

I am presently at the salon with my Daughter (phone just fell from my hand moments before writing this bcuz i dozed off briefly). My Daughter has long, med-dark, brown hair and she is getting it dyed to a darker greyish blue. She's also getting a cut. It is now 1415hrs. Her appt' began at 0900hrs. I definitely did not expect this lol, neither did my Daughter i'm sure, although personally a bigger shock is the price. Wowzers.

That was a long time! I have short hair so my experience might not be the same. I get a single process, cut, style and I'm normally like 1.5 to 2 hours. They serve me wine so I don't mind, but anything over that I would get really ansy.

I don't understand why mine take so dang long. I've grown it out since I've last had any color changes done to it, but shampoo and cut still takes 1.5 hours. But when my hair was shoulder length, I had a balayage take 4.5 hours, I had an overall one color darkening dye job take 3 hours and a cut and style take 2.5 hours. According to every stylist I've seen, I have thin hair, but A LOT of it. Its unbelievable.

I am a stylist and I can tell you, it can take every bit that long sometimes, say you have long hair and when you have to go through each section weaving etc that can take 1 to 2 hours depending on the length, Porosity of the hair, And density, then after that you have processing time which can take up to 45 minutes, then if you want a toner that Hass to be put on and set for at least 20 to 30 minutes sometimes, so you can have up to an hour and a half just in processing time alone, add a cut and a style, depending on what kind of cut you want if it’s just a blunt it shouldn’t take that long maybe 20 minutes or more and then you have styling time. So yes I will say this before I went to school I had the same thoughts and then after I realized all the things that went into it I was like oh OK, I get it now!!
