NWR: Housewarming / engagement gift

Jaclyn, on September 18, 2017 at 4:24 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

My good friend recently just bought a house and also got engaged. They are throwing a housewarming party at the end of the month and I really don't want to show up empty handed.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on housewarming/engagement gifts? My mind is literally at a blank.

Ask them if they are registered and if not find out what they need. If nothing else a bottle of wine is usually a nice gesture, something personalized is always nice too. How long til the party? You could look on Etsy for something personalized for their new home like a yard sign! If money is tight a door mat is a good option. You can actually personalize them on Walmart.com... or you used to be able to. We did that for Christmas one year for my FSIL. It was a family of snowmen, A mom, a dad and 2 boys. They also had options to add dogs and cats.

Wine is usually good for housewarmings.

I asked about engagement gifts for my fsil awhile back. A lot of people suggested an address stamp. That using their new address might be nice?

Do they like to cook? My favorite gifts are always things like fancy oils, spices, and salts that I wouldn't buy for myself.

Alternatively you could go for a pretty bowl, a bottle of wine/bubbly, a cool board game, candles/reed diffusers, hand towels with their initials...

ETA: Screw everything I just said and go with the address stamp Munchkin mentioned. It's the MVP of my wedding planning, hands down.

A nice bottle of wine and maybe a cute "home sweet home" sign or something like that?

    Bottle of wine!

ETA: didn't read the other comments before adding this. Probably best to pick something else so they don't get 100 bottles of wine. How about a welcome mat, some poopouri for their bathroom, you can never loose with a Yankee Candle!, or a wine bottle display thing!

OH! I love the address stamp idea! I'll have to look on etsy! The party is on the 30th so I am not sure I'd have it in time, but I can always just have it delivered there!

    Ours took about a week.

FSIL's took less than that. but the sellar was in CA and we had it shipped to TX

I don't have any ideas, but I just wanted to say that I just ordered a bunch of address stamps for FH and I, 120 of them for $12 including shipping at PersonalizationMall.com. Just something to check out!

Shipping it to their new home is a GREAT idea! I bet they would love that! They are probably getting alot of junk mail from just having bought a house. I think companies look for recent home purchases and so they can send advertisements. It would be nice to get a gift for a change.

A friend of mine got engaged and bought a house with her fiance around the same time as well. For her housewarming/engagement present, a bunch of us went in on a gift card to a local furniture store. That or a hardware store would be super useful for new homeowners!
