NWR.. House warming party.

Miranda, on September 2, 2017 at 7:19 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

So my best friend and her husband are throwing a house warming party. I'm not sure what to get them. They sent us an invitation through Facebook and said Lowe's gift cards are what they would like.

How much should you gift for a house warming gift?

Edit:spelling

I don't think I've ever been to a formal house warming that I felt required to bring anything more than food and or drink (like I said not formal). I wouldn't go more than $25 on the gift card...I think its a little odd to specify a gift for a house warming, for some reason it doesn't sit well with me.

That's what I was thinking. I've always grabbed a bottle and headed over. It just feels gift grabby tok me.

I've also never seen one with gift requests.

I generally go with wine, unless it is someone I know doesn't drink. Then I have bought them some cute matching kitchen stuff (oven mit, towels, mixing spoons, etc.). I shoot for somewhere in the $20-$25 ballpark.

It's totally gift grabby. When someone brings booze or food to my parties, it's appreciated but unexpected. They are asking for gifts, which isn't a good look.

Although house warming parties are a little rare nowadays, but I've gone to them, I take a plant...if they are plant ppl and their favorite drink. Mainly the gift is about how well you know them. In this case since they've asked for gc, its ok. The gc can also be to a grocery store or any store. Housewarming parties are still popular here in Florida.

I think anything you can afford will be much appreciated by your friends. However just because they suggested a gift card doesn't mean you can't get them something you know they need or want.

I went to a house warming last year and the couple didn't even know people would bring gifts. They were completely surprised when we all showed up with something. Fh and I got them nice coffee mugs and some kitchen towels. But I've never had anyone ask for a specific gift for a house warming.

I usually bring a decorative item for the home a gift card to either Lowes or Home Depot. A plant would be good too.

Team bring a bottle! There are little pinteresting ideas you can do like wrapping the bottle with a few dish towels, and tie a set of measuring spoons around the neck....

I was invited to a house warming a couple years ago, and on the invitation it stated she had a registry set up at bed bath and beyond and requested every guest bring a dish. I gave her an orchid bc I didnt appreciate the expectation.

I hate gift cards. To me they are not a real gift. I would gift house decor or something to do with their home. I would spend around 50-100 depending the gift.

Bottle of wine or a nice candle. I have never been to one that said what they needed. Best friend or not that's strange

FH and I threw a housewarming party when we got our place together...but it was really more of an excuse to have a party. We expected no gifts, although a few folks did bring a bottle of wine or a card of some kind. Overall it was just a fun evening with booze, food and friends.

I agree that the mention of any kind of gift feels...awkward. I have started shying away from wine in the last couple years as a gift because I don't know a lot of real wine drinkers anymore, but do whatever feels right.
