NWR: Hair salon disappointment...thoughts? Do I ask them to fix it?

Kathryn, on April 21, 2017 at 10:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I got my balayage redone today and I can't tell if I love the color or not. I HATE complaining about service at a salon or saying I don't like my hair after they've done it...but I spent a lot of money on it and I want to love it. I think my problem isn't that it doesn't look good, but that I don't think it looks like what I wanted in my inspo pic. Thoughts? I included my inspo pic and pics of my hair in the comments, I did one of outdoor lighting and one of indoor lighting because I think it makes a difference. We have our maternity pics next weekend so I want to love my hair!! I'm thinking of calling back first thing tomorrow and seeing if they can touch it up...thoughts? What do I say?

My hair in outdoor/natural light (please ignore my disastrous makeup, it was a long work day)

Hair in indoor light...I feel like there's none of the lighter shade variation?

In the outside lighting it looks close to the inspo pic but inside it looks a lot darker. Maybe just somemore hightlights?

I think what is making it look different is the inspo pic is ombre a little bit (darker on top than ends) and tours looks more natural, which i think is better

Seems like there needs to be more lighter pieces higher up. I'm sure they wouldn't mind adding some more pieces near your face and take it a little higher. Just tell them you like how it looks but you want to add a bit more lighter pieces.

I think it looks pretty close! Yours is definitely a bit darker and not as highlighted but you look beautiful Smiley smile If it bugs you too much, go back and tell them how you feel!

Your hair dresser may have been unable to get the blonde as light as in your inspo. picture if it was dyed, or is naturally, dark at the start of your appointment. It usually takes two or three sessions to get the blonde lightened. If you try to lighten it too quickly, it will damage your hair.

I agree with previous posters that it looks to be missing lighter bits up higher, call in the morning and see if you can come in for a correction or just to have someone look over it with you so you can express your concerns and show them where you feel the differences are or improvements can be made. I did a balayage color last year for the first time and didn't feel like it was as blonde as I wanted in my head. I got it redone on Monday and asked to have it lightened more than last time and there is a significant difference. My hair stylest told me that it is easier and "less damaging" to gradually lighten the hair.

My hair is a very similar color to yours and I've noticed that there is a huge difference depending on the lighting and how my hair is styled.

I agree with @amandaw that your inspo pic looks more like an ombre style than balyage. Ombre is more dramatic where balayage is supposed to look more subtle and natural. You're hair looks amazing tho so I wouldn't stress! Smiley smile

Yours is definitely darker than the inspiration. I would wait and style it yourself and see if you still feel the same.

I like it but you're right, it's not the saw or even close to the inspiration pic

I recently got a baylayage and my hairstylist warned me I could eventually reach how light I wanted to go but if I did it initially it would shock my hair. So over 2 more sessions I can add more platinum color, currently more caramel. Did she mention that to you? If not I'd at least ask her to add some lighter pieces!

While I do I like it, I see what you mean about the lightest shade being missing

It would help to see the back, from what I see the colors look natural to me.

Something to ask for if you are really going to lighten your balayage or any highlight for that matter is some olaplex so that your hair doesn't break.
